Population and room inventory of Playa

I tried doing a search on this, but either I'm doing it wrong or the search function doesn't work so well.

What is the "permanent" resident population of Playa?
What is the total room inventory for Playa del Carmen? As in, how many total available rooms - be it hotels, resorts, condos, etc?

I'm curious to know how much the population increases during a sold-out period.

Here's what the official website for the "county" of Solidaridad says, but their number sure seems low.

I think this information is outdated. The last number I saw was a population of 60,000.

The El Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática (INEGI) site shows a population of 63,752 for the muncipality of Solidaridad according to the 2000 census --- click here.

Below is additional info from a previous thread on this subject...

A. 50,000 – 100,000

To be more precise, the secretary of the city reported that the best estimate is in the lower 90,000s.

Again, this is for what can intuitively be recognized as the city, contiguous areas of land occupied around the orignal core of the town, but excluding what intuitively are considered to be separate towns but which are officially under the same municipal government (meaning for example Tulum or Akumal). Sorry that that point evidently sparked a flare-up of contention there, but I think I explained that fairly clearly in the original post (link below if you want to go back and check it).

For the record, the other areas combined come to something approaching 50,000 additional people. So the entire area governed by the same mayor, and which again stretches from somewhere just on the Playa side of Puerto Morels south to and including Tulum, is approaching 150,000 total, with basically 2/3 of those people in Playa proper.
The link provided in my previous post is to a thread from just last month where Ryberg gave more info on this subject.
