Maybe save some server horse power

My typical mode of operation is to go to forum, and select "new posts". As I proceed down the list of new/updated posts, I select all of them, whether I'm really interested in that thread or not. Why? Because I want to narrow down the list of new posts. I select some just to get them off my list of new posts, when I know I'm not interested in that line of conversation.

Certainly, if there is another way for me to accomplish this, I'm all ears. But, here's a thought if there isn't another way...

What if there was a way for me to flag a thread as "I don't want to see this thread again under new posts". How many times did I select, for example, the "boobs on the beach" thread just to get it off my "new posts" list?

Just a thought, but seems to me it could save a lot of server horse power.

I use the New Posts Option too and read the ones that interest me and then I use Quick Links and choose "Mark Forums Read".
