I just bought a Sony Network Walkman NW-HD3. 20 GB and 30 hours battery. It holds all my CD's and it's only half full. I use Sony’s file format because I think its better, but I also use some mp3s in it. I really like the Sony. Small and light weight. Good sound.
I was thinking about buying the iPod Photo, but I agree with James. I don't really get it. It's not for me. |

Hey guys,
All of these things are great for portability, convenience, etc. but your still only getting MP3 quality sound, and not CD quality. It's a balance between port/conven. and sound where you need to make your decision. They are great for other things as well. Apple is working on a deal, if not locked up already, with Sirius radio programming. Not sure on actual sizes yet, I've seen the prototypes and they are the bomb though. I currently have both Sirius and Xm, yes a little excessive I know, but seeing as I work for a major electronics chain I get some great deals. The XM to go is my favorite toy right now, as it moves from car to house and I can store up to 5 hours of music (albeit at MP quality, which I hate, as it drops out 10% of highs and lows). The down side is that the signal is currently only available in the continental US and with a little carry over into Canada and Mexico, very little though. Those two companies get this worldwide satellite radio thing right and into Playa and I'll be a happy camper!! But again, do your research, the new mini from Apple is a teaser at $99 and is intended to get you into MP's and then spend more on the 20 and 40. Playstation is soon releasing the new PSP, which for those of you with kids, you might want to check out if you are contemplating buying something soon. This will do a ton of things too, and of course play games. THIS WILL BE VERY HOT AND PRE-SELLS ARE THROUGH THE ROOF AT MY LOCATION Check it out at www.circuitcity.com put PSP in 'search' box. |

Just ordered. Got a silver iPod - the old one with the firewire cable from the Special Deals section of the Apple Store, it was $169 in the Education store. Changed the speakers - the JBL Duet 2.0 had universally positive reviews and was much less expensive than the Bose, so I ordered them. We have the Bose computer speakers, and I like them just fine which is why I was pre-disposed toward the Bose.
Here is what the Sirius CEO had to say about an Apple deal a month ago: Sirius prez Mel Karmazin admitted during a talk at a media conference yesterday that he had approached Steve Jobs about adding Sirius to the iPod and found no love. In Mel’s words: the “current thinking” at Apple is that “they don’t need to put satellite radio in their box.” Rest of the story - though not much else here Current thinking could change, of course. If you want CD quality, use Apple lossless format. File sizes are much larger (about 10x larger), but you get it all. The file size is not as big an issue with music on your computer - hard drive space is inexpensive, but it becomes a larger issue on a portable music player. I am satisified with the AAC format that Apple uses natively on iTunes - combined with the Bose computer speakers and the subwoofer, it satisfies me, but I am not a huge audiophile. Ron |

Roni's right, you can get cd quality onto any recording, just depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend. I prefer to hear it all, every high and low that was intended to be put out and heard whenever I can. Would be like going to Playa and not getting out of your hotel room/resort --so much more to do and see (sea)

I got a nice set of Klipsch media speakers that I use for my iPod. Came with a subwoofer and are intended to be computer speakers. At about $150 the sound is great. Not as nice a set-up as the Bose with the docking station, but much better sound reproduction IMHO.

Of course you can get CD quality sound if you want: just put the AIF(F) file on you iPod. Takes up a ton of room for relatively very little extra in sound quality, but you can certainly do it. I tend to go with m4a (mp4) files, which I find to be very good quality at a tiny memory price -- better than mp3s and smaller, too. Apple offers you its own "Lossless" system, as well, which cuts a CD file in half in terms of memory with allegedly no loss from CD quality. It's all a choice. Vinyl faithful insisted -- maybe still insist -- that good vinyl sounds better than CD. I think you need an absolute monster killer turntable to make that claim stick, but those folks are out there.

If you don't find a mule, I'd be happy to do it for you when ever you want if you pick up 50% of the airfare for me.

I love my IPOD mini-I guess I don't need more then 1,000 songs. I use mine for working out and traveling mostly. I did by the wireless FM Transmitter (ITrip) and I am not impressed with it. It sounds okay in the car, but I wish there was something better. I have not purchased the monster cable to hook up at home yet-but that is in the future-anyone had good results with that yet?
ITunes is helpful I think, I like listening to the music before I buy it? The only downfall I see with IPODs are the battery issues-has anyone had any luck sending their's back and had a new battery installed? |

I used to prefer Circuit City over Best Buy. Problem I have is they closed the two nearest stores to me and it's a 40 minute drive now to the closest Circuit City.Quote:
