1st Annual Benefit and Auction for the Bomberos
Capitan Bob's is holding the First Annual Benefit and Auction of the Patronato de Bomberos de la Riviera Maya AC on Saturday, March 19th at 7 pm. Entrance fee is 20 usd per person.
This is to raise money for equipment and training for the local firemen. The evening will include food, live music, raffle prizes, and an auction. My guess is that most of the local expatriate community will be making an appearance at this benefit. Capitan Bob's is located on 5th avenue betwwen 14th and 16th streets. |

Thanks for the Info, Heather!
![]() Unfortunately we will not be down for this event. Is there a way we can make a $20 contribution towards this? When we were down last month I looked at the ferry pier several times for the Bomberos & was unable to locate them. Police kiosk told me to find them on Hwy.307[long way to walk after a night at BP] Still looking for one of thier T-shirts |

Benefit
Please do let us know if there is a way to make a contribution. We have a tshirt thanks to softy and stogey.
We visited the fire dept last summer. They do need equipment bad. But one thing that will always stick with me. Im married into a family of firefighters. This was a crew that does not have much. The ambulance we saw - they had just purchased (from Colorado???) and was definitely out of date. But they are so very proud of what they have. Now here in the states we have crews that have it all and then some. But some are just never satisfied. They don't know how lucky they really are. Would love to send something! |

Since all you Playa.Info peeps are such generous folk, I contacted the commander of the bomberos regarding your offers of help. He is coming by the Playa.Info office today to post information about how you can help by donating money. Thank you for your kind support of our local firemen!!

QUOTE] I've visited fire stations in several Latin American countries and I'm always amazed that they can even do their job with what they have available. I do feel fortunate to have what we have and yet even we need more. I hope all those who are interested in helping out are given a means to do so even if we cant be there. |

Wow, I just visited the Bomberos web site.
It looks like Brian has really gotten the dept. off to a good start and is moving forward. They have more than I would have guessed but still need more in order to complete some great projects and acquisitions. |

....I thought Bumper said they were Mexico's equivalent to Industrial Light and Magic....no admission charges....Great entertainment - bring the kids - leave the coatimundi. WE received T-shirts coming off the Coz ferry last time we were there...mentioned the forum as the source of our "donation"...gave 'em $50 and they were kind enough to give us T-shirts....(Pssst - don't let that last part about getting T-shirts with donations get out - it was a "special deal" just for us) ![]() |

Hello, My name is Brian Borjesson and I am the Comandante of the Bomberos Playa del Carmen. On behalf of my hard-working firefighters, I would like to thank you for your generous offers of help. We rely on t-shirt sales and donations to fund nearly everything necessary to keep our firehouse running.
Right now, we are in need of donations to cover the cost of feeding all of the firefighters who are coming from all around Quintana Roo to participate in the upcoming weeklong State Academy. The cost to feed a single firefighter is 100 pesos per day, or 600 pesos per week, and the cost to feed a four man team for a week is 2400 pesos. If you would like to help sponsor a firefighter, please send donations via the PayPal website, www.paypal.com and click on the link that says "send money." Send the donations to my email address, which is sicomono[at symbol]prodigy.net.mx I'd also like to personally invite each of you to attend the State Championship Competition, to be held at the Bomberos Playa firehouse on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 11 am. This fun day showcases the pride these hardworking men take in the work they do. Thank you so much for your time and generosity. I look forward to seeing you at the firehouse!! |

Anyone making a donation of 20 bucks or more will get a super cool little Playa Bomberos shield logo under their username. Just be sure to put playa.info in the comments of your donation so Brian can let us know to add your credentials.

I'm curious as to the nature of the "donation" these two beautiful ladies made on this particular day...
![]() ...I'm thinking perhaps a "fire-pole demonstration"...? Hey...maybe they'll be on staff at the new Fireschool? Professors Squish and Denisea... ALL kidding aside folks... Let's get those donations rolling in - FEED a hungry fireman ! ![]() |

As far as the quote above I'm sure it doesn't come across in the spirit sent but it just rubs me the wrong way a bit. You can never have it all as far fire and rescue go, unless you don't pay your ff's anything, God forbid. The folks who don't know how lucky they are are the ones who get rescued w/state of the art equipment and training. Nothing worse than being buried in a trench or some other dead space or stuck in a car that is mangled and having guys w/the knowledge and skill to extricate you and them not having the proper equipment to get you out in that few minutes that makes quality of life an issue. Or worse yet, being trapped in a fire waiting while you could be actively rescued. You won't appreciate us always wanting more until you find yourself in that moment where you have lost control of your life and the big "Oh Shiite" is happening. |
