4th Annual Quintana Roo Bomberos State Acadamey

Beginning on March 28, the Bomberos Playa del Carmen will be hosting the 4th annual Quintana Roo State Academy for training firemen from cities throughout the entire state. This weeklong training is the only time during the year that these firemen get to train, and it gives the various departments a chance to learn how to work together, which is crucial during large fires requiring support from several different departments. Captains from U.S. fire departments, among the highest decorated in their field, arrive to train these firemen, bringing with them their much-needed expertise.

The week culminates in a State Championship Competition, a fun, challenging day open to spectators, to be held on Saturday, April 2, starting at 11 am. This is held at the Bomberos Playa firehouse, located on the West side of federal highway 307, not far north of Constituyentes.

Do you know if Playa has a sister city in the U.S.?

Our sister city is Saltillo and we train with them a few times a year. We also are able to send them used and some new equipment.

I'm not sure how well the firefighters in Playa are equiped but I know that with a city that size with a major highway going through it their needs are extensive.

Can you tell me where the US guys are coming from? I would love to get involved in the future.

I really wish I could be there for the event.
