another restaurant change
Well this should be interesting: there is some word on the street to the effect that the TGI Friday's at the corner of 5th ave & 8th street is going to become a Burger King.

We did think it odd that they closed and ripped down the signs for "renovations" at the height of the season. |

My response is...so what? There's already a BK here, also 2 McDonald's restaurants. I had to deliver something last night near the Paseo Mall and while walking by the Johnny Rocket's (chain burger/fries/shakes 50's diner replica) I noticed nearly every table in the joint was full. So...somebody's eating at all these places, why wouldn't they put up another one?
It's not really like 5th avenue is this bastion of authentic Mexican culture that will be ruined now that BK is taking over TGIFriday's. If I were on vacation, I would avoid eating at these places, but hey, to each their own. |

This topic has been brought up often (find that thread about a Hard Rock rumor!). It's only fair that the locals there have plenty of choices too and it's selfish of us to not want them to have an American chain just b/c we don't want to see it while we are on vacation. I used to have similar feelings, but after seeing Playa grow for the last 10 years, I got passed it and changed my view. How upset would we be if we couldn't find a Mexican restaurant close to us at home? I'm not a TGI Fridays or a BK fan even at home, but plenty of people obviously like them.
(I'm not saying anyone who responded above is selfish by the way!) Last edited by SarahB : 03-19-2005 at 07:19 PM. |

Burger King, eh? So maybe that's where Kinz has been all this time - cutting a new BK commercial from Playa. Wonder if the Cowboys Cheerleaders will be in this one too? Never thought about stopping when it was a TGIF...and won't while its a BK either... Now if it were a Hooter's...or I guess that would be "Chi-Chi's" - but there's already a chain by that name....unless I have the Mexican for Hooters placed incorrectly...... |
