SILVER king of the Carnivores in Playa del Carmen has sadly passed away

SILVER, a wonderful dog with human friends and acquaintances in just about every country in the world, has passed away. Silver is a Playa original, he is a beautiful free spirited creature, owned by no one, but loved by so many.

Silver passed away on Wednesday March 16, after 3 weeks of treatment. He could no longer walk. After a day of chicken, ham, and a lot of love from Ellen, Paco gave Silver a ticket on the Dog Heaven Express and he passed peacefully in 3 or 4 seconds. What a guy, what a unique and wonderful dog.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

How very sad. At least Silver passed having received much love. No doubt he will be remembered fondly by many. Although I never met Silver, I'll raise a glass to him.

Goodbye, Mayor of 5th Avenue!!

I am so sad to hear this news. Silver was by far the coolest, most laid back dog I've ever met, really Old School Playa. Silver had a nightly schedule of walking around downtown to say "hi" to people. When I worked at Beer Bucket he would come by every night at 11 or so to say hi and get some water and a few back scratches. Sometimes I'd see him passing by at other times and I'd try to call him, but no...he was a dog with a plan and had to get where he was going on schedule.

Playa will be just a little less cool without him.

I am sure he is with Marshall now. I often thought what juicy wonderful stories Silver could tell if he wasnt a dog. I remember seeing him shortly after our first visit to Playa many years ago and would look forward to seeing him each year we were there. We recently was in Playa and knew he was in bad shape. Ellen you gave him a good life and comfortable towards the end. Thank you Arnold for letting us know. I know you will miss him-we will all miss him!

What a bittersweet announcement. I'm sorry Silver is gone.

This goes to show why Playa is such a sought out place. It's the people (and dogs) who create the ambience. May the kind, open, friendly atmosphere never change.

I'm sorry I never met Silver. He must have been a wonderful ambassador.

silver

Well, we met Silver in May of '04 in the Beer Bucket. We will be there again this May to see Big Jim, Jaime, etc. but it won't be the same w/out Silver. We saw him day after day around 8 or 9 o'clock....just hanging out w/ the patrons....locals and tourists alike. What a cool dude! We will miss Silver, but we will be back at the Bucket this May 5th and have a few cervezas in his honor. What a guy....

Hi-Yo Silver ...

Arnold, I only just saw this thread and am so sad to learn that I won't be able to have a little visit with that very special free spirit on my next trip. My first thought was the same as Maya's, however -- Silver is surely hanging out with Marshall now, and the other dear departed of Playa. And that image, along with the fact that he had a happy life and must have known he was much loved, has me smiling.

I'm going to see if I can dig up some old photos of my own to share.

He was one cool doggie dude, and he'll be missed.

Condolences to you, to Ellen, Taz and the rest of the gang ... xops

I believe I saw him walking around the bars and restaurants this past january, he seemed to be on a mission as he stopped at certain places and soon after someone would pop over and give him a treat or two. I am a MAJOR dog (animal)lover and reading this brought a tear to my eyes and a lump in my throat .....

Well time to go give my special little lab shepard mix a big hug and a bigger treat! They are here a short time so to those that go out of their ways to give them a happy enriched life, HATS OFF TO YOU!

RIP!
