Playa del Carmen condo

Recently my wife and I and another couple spend a two week vacation at the Condo Sussex Gauteria in Casa Del Sol on 30th street between 5th and 10th Ave. in Playa Del Carmen. This property is managed by Carmen Diaz of Villas Playa Del Carmen located on 10th Ave. between 10th and 12th Streets.
When we arrived at the condo on Thursday afternoon one of the Villas Playa Del Carmen employees checked us in and as the air conditioning was not on, it was extremely hot. She managed to get it going and everything else seemed to be fine at the time. At about 3:00 am Friday morning, we noticed the air conditioning was not working again.

We went to the office on Friday, but it was closed. We were without air conditioning for Friday. Saturday morning we walked down to the office again and asked them to have it fixed. Late Saturday afternoon a fellow came out to have a look and made some repairs and got it working again.

We also put out our water jug in the hall on Saturday, as we were instructed to do when we needed water and it was not replaced for two days.

Sunday night the air conditioning stopped again. Monday we made another stop to the office and it was working again when we arrived home later that night. (Trying to call by telephone usually resulted in the number being busy or a recorded message in Spanish)

Tuesday morning we discovered the gas had been turned off so there was no hot water, no stove and no dryer.

We called the office and the gas was turned back on Wednesday. They did not get the hot water tank going again though, so we still did not have any hot water.

Thursday morning while cooking we could smell gas in the condo so we turned off the stove and went to the office to let them know. Nothing happened this day.

Friday morning we stopped in again at the office and they promised they would have these things fixed. Nothing was done this day either.

Saturday one of the Villa Playa Del Carmen employees arrived with a couple of repair people and they managed to get everything working. Her boyfriend actually came and repaired the gas leak and adjusted the oven and showed us how to work it, we had been told it was broken. In speaking to Carmen Diaz about all the problems we had encountered, we said if everything was not fixed properly, we would want to move to another condo at her expense. The best she could do was to have another condo for us by Monday morning. Everything appeared to have been fixed ok, except when we arrived back at the condo that night the air conditioning was down again.

On Sunday when I reached Carmen she said she try to have the air conditioning fixed today or have us moved into another condo Monday morning. When we left the condo Monday morning for Xcaret, we left her a note saying we were expecting a full refund of our deposit (no -10% for handling charges and won’t get it for two weeks after our departure) and a 25% discount of our total rental fee. We moved Monday night when we returned home from Xcaret.

Wednesday we went to the office to see about our request and found Carmen and her entire staff to be there. We explained all of the problems and asked her what she was prepared to do about our request.

She said that she had talked to the owner and the owner wanted the reports from the technicians. She informed us, that all of her technicians told her that we caused all of our own problems and she was not going to do anything about our request It was going to be up to the owner if they would do anything

.

We explained to her that this was not acceptable, and we requested the name and address of the owner. She refused to give us any information about the owner. She said she would contact them to request permission and let us know. At this point we told her we were not satisfied and would be contacting the Mexican Department of Tourism and posting our experience on this web site and we left the office.

Thursday 12:00 noon was check out time. One of the employees arrived 20 minutes late to check us out. Upon arrival she returned to us our full damage deposit ( which we would have got back anyway, two weeks after arriving back in Canada minus 10%) plus a small refund which amounted to 9.7% of the total of the two week rental fee.

We suggested she update her web page advertising this property.

The Jacuzzi is very dirty and not usable – unless you want to bathe among the wiring hanging overhead.

She advertises " A nice roof top deck" that is rotting and not safe, this is where, if you crane your neck, around the building next door, you can see the ocean. "Perfect for sharing a romantic moment viewing the ocean, stars and moon" Hmmmm……

"Maid service three times a week" – once the first week, 2 times the second week.

" CD Player" brought a week later when we requested it .

The pool was very nice – no complaints.

Air-conditioning?

Gas ?

Hot Water?

Drinking Water?

She said she will take our suggestion under advisement.

I would not recommend Villas Playa del Carmen.

Other than these problems, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Playa del Carmen.

A pity, too, that you seem to have experienced poor management. I lived in Casa del Sol for a few months and really liked my apartment.

How discouraging...how did you find this place..and thanks for the warning...I think I'm pretty good at reading between the lines and must admit that over the years we have taken chances on accommodations and so far so good, we have never had such an experience. I am a firm believer in theory that if you like the place you stay you will like the destination so hope your experience doesn't turn you off playa.
