Although someone suggested that it was bad police work because on saturday they only searched for an hour, that isn't neccessarily true, they called off the search at about 10 because it was to dark to see, and having lived in playacar for a year and a half if she was not right on the beach and they had to go into the bush in the dark it would be next to impossible to find her because it is so dense. They resume the search at 5 in the morning when the sun came up and found her fairly quickly. It also says that the wounds on her hands were formed from a weapon my guess is a knife and she probabley had her ahnds up infront of her face as most people do when they are defending themselves. Playacar is a very safe place and something like this could happen any where, just don't be stupid and go out walking with a bunch of jewlerry and valuable items at night by yourself. Use your common sense,Not that I am condoning what happened to this lady.

We will watch the German News tomorrow night to see if theres anything on there about it?
In the german news there was nothing about it. It's the first thing I hear about it (and my family and friends would have already told me if THEY had heard anything).

We were there

My family was at the EBQ/T 3/15 to 3/23 and saw or heard nothing about this. I was down at the beach each morning at 5:30 am until 6:00 then went running until 7- 7:30 am. This was every morning uncluding Sunday morning and saw nothing that looked official.....barely saw any people of any kind at that hour. I sure hope this is not true or I will not be able to trust my instincts again...never felt unsafe at all.

Well, I think it has already been established that this IS true. This lady was indeed murdered.

Very, very sad.

Does anyone have any updates? Have there been any arrests? Is there an ongoing investigation? Have the police made any announcements? The Por Esto article is over a week old, I was just wondering if there have been any updates since then?

Yes, it's true and very disturbing, but things like this happen everywhere. Whenever anyone asks about the safety in Playa the response is always to be safe and smart in your actions like you would normally do at home (ex. not walking alone at night in secluded areas, etc.). That advice won't help in every situation unfortunately, but it is a good rule to follow.

Is there any word on who did this to her?

This is very sad. tntsmith is right, these things can and do happen everywhere. We all need to remember that even in paradise bad things happen. Lets all try to use good judgement.

One more thing. Typically in "Vacation countries" Such as mexico and the DR, Santa Semana and Spring Break have the highest death tolls

Mofi, sorry, but I have difficulties with what you write. I don't like generalizations.

The dead woman in Playa seems to have been my co-national. But over here you are always warned to use your brain and common sense and for example never walk on deserted beaches in the night (especially when you are a woman). What she did was extremely careless and she paid for it with her life. I just don't understand why her husband would have let her go alone in the dark on the deserted beach... that's something which makes me wonder. So anyone who might get started with issues like 'Playa is not safe any more'... be careful as it might have been different than what it seems to be at the first glance. It's easy to blame the 'poor mexicans'. But who knows whether it were actually mexicans doing this?

Just my 2 cents. And I am really sorry for the guy who lost his wife in Playacar.

I had a little 'incident' while I was living down there, but it didn't make me any more fearful of being there. Basically I lived in a condo complex that was gated, therefore I thought I was safe and I slept with the patio door open, trying to save on electricity since I was paying for it. Dumb move. Someone climbed up the balcony and I woke up to find someone in my room. I asked them to leave and they left. They only got my favorite purse and favorite lipstick. I was not touched at all. Thank God. Not a fun experience, but I learned that you can't take safety for granted. I no longer slept with the patio door open. I didn't feel any less safe being in Mexico, I figured the same thing could have happened in the states and it was my fault for taking it for granted that living in a gated area made me safe. My point being to be careful and take the same precautions you would anywhere else.

Murder

Why didn't the police interview the other guests at the IBQ/T since these folks would have been the last to see her alive? Any guest could have committed the crime......no one interviewed our family we never heard ANYTHING about this. If it was a guest, they are long gone by now along with any clues.....very shoddy police work.

Without having all the details or facts of what actually happened... it's not really prudent to pass judgment on the competency of the police.
