If this is the same hotel it's certainly a step up from Allegro. The Maroma beach is said to be one of the finest in the world.

Yes i think thats the one! Ventaclub playa Maroma is the full name as i understand, but is there also a "hotell Maroma"? Located at the same stretch of beach?! Yes i agree...seems better than the Allegro, theres no beach at the Allegro anymore!!

Playa Maroma is just south of the Iberostar Paraiso resorts... great beach. Here is a pic from August '04

Looks like it might work out well for you! I am just curious though, how did you find out the Allegro was overbooked? Did they call you, or your travel agent? We are booked at another Occidental property in about 10 days and I am just wondering how they communicate this to guests who are on their way

If it's the Maroma Beach Resort, I've heard it is one of the higher end resorts around, frequented by various celebrities when they visit the area (Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn apparently stayed there a few months ago).

As i understand it Heather, there is a Maroma Hotel and then there is Ventaclub All-Inclusive Playa Maroma?!, i guess the celebs stay at the smaller resort!?
We are happy with the change anyway because we are beach people and as we all know the beach is gone at the Allegro! The only downside as i see it is that is far to Playa del Carmen, but we got a 15% refund from the travelagent beacuse of the overbooking so i guess we can use that for taxi!

Kaki321: The travelagent called us yesterday and told us about the overbooking and gave us 2 alternatives....the other was a hotel closer to Playa, the gran porto real but they are still renovating and building there so we didnt want to stay there....i dont want to wake up to drilling sounds when i am in paradise!

That's an easy one, Shammy
I don't know you personally, but... if not pregnant 5 months, then would it be shorter or longer than 5 months? :p

The construction is across the street at Royal Porto Real. We had a lovely stay at GPR in August. The construction posed no problems at all.
