Barcelo Maya Beach ????

Help we are scheduled to vacation at the Barcelo maya beach in july of 05. we had read reviews all sounded and looked good until of course after i book 6 people through vacation express, what do i find but a review comment about the dreaded door key card in the slot to turn on electricity trick. Well let me say i have had only one experience with this system and it was in the dominican republic and it sure didnt go over well with the nine others we were vacationing with last year. ( is this going to be a nice vacation at this facility or should we look elsewhere. any and all of your experiences and or opinions will be much appreciated. again thanks for your time at your keyboard. Randy

The Barcelo Maya is a great place to vacation! The key in the slot just kicks on the air conditioning! The electricity is on all the time! We just left an expired library card in the slot to keep air conditioning on all the time. Even when we forgot to leave it in the slot (kids!!!) the room stayed cool. The beach is wonderful, pools large, grounds immaculate, rooms very clean! You haven't made a mistake!! Have you looked at the unoffical Barcelo web site???

My teen girls, one who is a princess wannabe, loved the Barcelo! There are lots of pictures available so search on different sites so you can see what it looks like!

I've never stayed in a large resort, so I just have to ask this question: does it really take so long to cool a small hotel room to excuse the horrendous waste of energy by leaving it on all the time?

Rooms cool down in no time at Barcelo, the air work really good. We liked the system to put the card in the slot. We used an old debit card when we were not in the room to keep the air on. Barcelo is great dont pass it up, you will not be disappointed. www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com and go to the discussion board and then the photo thread.

wake up at nite sweating soaked sheets etc.

we stayed in the Dominican Republic at a AI resort that had same system, and it would just go off indescrimanitely throughout the day and nite. not what you would want to have for spending 7,000 dollars to go on vacation so if i use a little extra electricity and it bothers some people i am sorry.!!!!

We have a daughter who suffers from a chronic illness...not a "horrendous" waste of energy for her!

I knew my opinion would be in the minority in this forum. Just being a spoon, I guess.

Nahhh....your opinion is always welcome! If we didn't have our kids with us we'd be in town but a large AI and all their amenities works better for us at this stage of our life. We work hard through the year and like to be pampered (as much as we can afford!) while on vacation.

And this is part of what I love about this area; there is room for everyone's opinion/tastes and hotels to suit nearly everyone. I liked it so much, in fact, I made it my home!

the only problem we had was the beer getting warm in the mini fridge when we were not in the room....so we filled the trash can with ice and keep the beer in there....no problem..then we did not have to get up from the balcony to get a cold one

If the fridge is in a cupboard, leave the cupboard door open. Warm air is vented from a fridge and the cupboard traps it. Unless its a crummy fridge, then your screwed.!
