Darn, let us know how it turns out.
James, can you revisit this issue. Is it safe if you stick your card in rather than swipe? Where are the safest ATMs? Are the ones at the airport safe, ever had these issues? Are the ones at the airport swipe? I want to use the ATMs for the conversion rates when I and there. |

Just an info for all those who think that things like that happen only in Mexico: in the past months several banks here in Cologne had the problem that little attachments were put in front of the slit for the card of ATMs which copied the data and then little cameras were installed with which the entry of the PINs was filmed when people entered them on the keyboard. Afterwards with the saved data clones of the ATM-cards were made. Once people knew that this was happening they became more careful and the banks changed the ATMs so that technique became more difficult.
Then it happened that whoever did that became more skilled (as they are working on their technology all the time) and next thing was that they put a keyboard dummy on the real keyboard and with this dummy they save the PINs. The keyboard dummy was so good that it was hard to detect (I think they found out only because it slipped a little bit to one side). Last thing they tried (was successful in Austria) was to blow up an ATM with gas. That was 2 weeks ago but the ATM withheld that effort so they were not successful at least not here in Cologne. ATM's seem to be a target market for organized crime in Europe these days.... Andrea Last edited by Andiline : 04-01-2005 at 01:13 PM. |

i thought we had a 500 a day maximum
its a 500 per transaction limit with a 5000 per day maximum and yes james we go to this machine every day or so and commented on how they had changed to swipes vs sticking the card in but recieved no $ we thought it was probably out of $ because of the easter crowds and returned later to see the samer old machines which gave us $ these crooks were very sophisticated and probably had a magnetized add-on that steals your atm info and pin # then they print up cards and go to all the atms with hundreds of peoples cloned cards and go wild all the transactions were @ 2 am from pdc to bernito juarez and vizcaya wherever that is |
