Want to be recognized as a Playa.Info Peep? Wear a Nerak Necklace!

NOTE: A special fundraiser for Playa locals in conjunction with the Nerak Necklaces has begun. Click here for details. Will run starting immediately through September 30, 2005 or until $500 is raised.

As many of you know, I made about 100 necklaces for the ****** party on March 4th and mailed about half of those out to forum members prior to going to Playa, and then I gave out the rest either on the streets of Playa (as people recognized me) or during the party.

Honestly.... I got such a kick out of doing that. Making them was fun and gifting them out was even better!! And I say a big THANKS to all the forum folk who expressed their appreciation. I really enjoyed the smiles I received in exchange!!

I would love to continue to this "How to Recognize a Playa.Info Peep" tradition, but until I scratch the right Lotto ticket or pick the right numbers for Saturday night's MegaMillions drawing, I just can't afford to do it as I started it (i.e. free for the asking).

So here's the deal:

NERAK "NECKLACES": Anyone who wants a Necklace or two or whatever, send me a PM with your desired quantity and your mailing address. What I ask for in return is that you send me $4 USD per Necklace plus the cost of whatever postage it costs me to mail them to you. If you don't want to keep the Necklaces, mail 'em back (at your expense). If you do want to keep 'em, I'll trust you to hold up your end of the deal and send me a check (or use Pay Pal). Sound fair??

The "standard" length of the Necklace is about 35", and I make 'em with hemp cord which is strong and not stretchy. I did a test for strength after soaking it in water for 18 hours and almost cut my fingers trying to break it (which it didn't)! If you'd rather have a shorter Necklace, please specify the length you'd prefer and I'll make 'em as close to that as possible.

NERAK "BRACELETS": I make the Bracelets with stretch polymer cording in three sizes (but I'll make them larger or smaller if you want): "Small" (7" long); "Medium" (8" long); and "Large" (9" long) Using my 6.5" wrist as a guide (I measured on my arm just above the wrist gone), the "Small" fits snug (but not tight), and a "Medium" rests loose on my wrist, like a bangle. The polymer cording allows them to roll easily up over the hand. (And ladies... keep in mind that if you're anything like me, you might get a bit, shall I say, "puffy?" when in Playa due to the heat/humidity, so unless you've got a small frame and tiny wrists, a "Medium" might be more comfortable. Just my opinion...) I don't mean to leave the macho gender out of the Bracelet discussion (thus the "Large" 9" size). If there are any guys who would like one, let me know your wrist measurement (if you think the 9" would be too small) and tell me how you'd like it to fit and I'll give it my best shot!

The Bracelets are $3.50 each.

NERAK "ANKLETS" with Standard Beads or Petite Beads: I make the Anklets with two different beads - either the "Standard" (same 6x9mm beads used in the Necklaces and Bracelets) or the "Petite" (smaller 4x7mm beads) Using my own ankle for sizing, I've come up with a standard approx. 10" length including clasp. These are made with stretch polymer cording but have a barrel-type (screw) clasp. As with the Bracelets, if you'd like one made larger or smaller than that, just let me know. Be sure to measure your ankle when standing. While my ankle measures just a smidge over 9", the 10" length fits good - not too tight, not too loose (you need to allow a little for the depth of the beads).

The Anklets are $4.00 each.

For those who aren't aware, the colors used are those of the Mexican flag (red, white, and green), and the off-white beads you see are (don't tell anyone cuz it's a secret!) glow-in-the-dark beads!! Oh, my!!

Postage costs: After having mailed out a bunch, I now have a handle on the postage costs:

1 necklace = $.83;
1 necklace and 1 or 2 bracelets = $.83;
2 necklaces = $1.06;
3 necklaces = $1.29;
4 necklaces = $1.75;
6 necklaces = $2.44.

Postage costs for Bracelets and Anklets are less (as it all has to do with the total weight), so feel free to check with me if you want an exact cost of postage.

And, if you're short on time, Priority Mail (2-3 day delivery, per USPS within USA) is available for $3.85 (if under 6 or fewer necklaces). If you need more and need 'em quick, PM me and I'll figure it out! For the Canadians, I've found a "smallish" order generally runs around $4.00 but check with me if you want to know exact postage costs beforehand.

NERAK "PDC CHARMS" (Circle or Straight): So..... you've been to Playa, wore your Nerak stuff, met lotsa peeps, and had a great time. BUT. Now you're home. No more Playa (but admit it... you already ARE planning another trip, aren't you!!?!) Want a little reminder of Playa here and there?? Since it's kinda hard to carry around that Mexican blanket you brought home and wearing that new pareo you picked up on 5th might raise a few eyebrows at the office, why not pick up a Nerak PDC Charm? I've got one on my pocketbook and my key chain and will probably hang a few more around here (think the cats would appreciate one dangling inside the lid of their litter box?? Okay.... maybe not. )

They're made the same Nerak beads (on hemp cord) along with three "PDC" lettered beads (hand lettered and coated with a thin layer of polyurethane to prevent wear-off). The Circle Charm measures about 2" around and has a 1" silver metal lanyard hook. The Straight Charm measures about 2.5" long and has the same 1" lanyard hook.

The Charms are $3.00 each.

NERAK "HAT BANDS": Yup. Thanks to Mikey, the catalog of Nerak stuff is growing. Hat bands are made on a white shoelace. Specify what letters you want, what colors you want, and what length you want it to be. Click here to see thread Mikey started to show off his new Hat Band.

The Hat Bands are $8.00 each.

I also have the following colors available to make "build-to-suit" necklaces", so if you would rather have a necklace or bracelet in colors other than the Mexican Flag colors, just ask (same prices as those listed above):

Xmas Green
Xmas Red
White
Bright Yellow
Royal Blue
Turquoise Blue
Bright Orange
Hot Pink
Coral
Deep Purple
Medium Brown
Jet Black
Teal Pearl
Pink Pearl
Red Pearl
Black Pearl
Glow-in-the-Dark (off-white in daylight)

While you consider the above options, let's examine the benefits of wearing a Nerak Necklace:

They go great with bathing suits, sunblock, and rum punch on the Fat Cat:

They help keep you from falling overboard while drinking rum punch on the Fat Cat:

They help you remember your name so you can properly write it on a name tag (if available) at Playa.Info get-togethers:

They help keep you alert in order to respond properly and intelligently when discussing Canadian political affairs:

They help you hold other people up (and consequently yourself) when standing in a group to pose for photos at a ****** Bash:

They help you wear silly birthday candle hats and hold up poles while chatting amicably with newly established residents of Paamul:

(This photo is offered as a warning. Do not wear your souvenir Mexican blanket while wearing your Nerak Necklace, as other Playa.Info Peeps will not recognize you, and the whole point of wearing it will be moot.)

They will help you show off your new Fat Cat T-shirts that you got for free cuz you booked your Fat Cat trip through this site.

They help to make people stand up and salute you at Playa.Info get-togethers.

This one has nothing to do with a Nerak Necklace. I just wanted to include it. Hey, it's MY thread!! (Guess I should've made my Forum name Crazy Cat Lady!)

They help you come to Playa with two broken arms and still have fun.

They help you look really cool when you're drinking a Corona, even while you're hoping no one will notice that your lime is now firmly stuck in the neck of your beer bottle.

They will help the sun come up and give you glorious weather for the entire day in Playa. (Note: This has not been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, but at least a certain someone's head in the photo didn't explode when I typed that, so that must be a good sign.)

The Nerak Necklace craze has even caught on with an iguana we saw cruising around Xel-Ha.

Hope these Nerak Necklaces, Bracelets, and Anklets help fellow forum folk get recognized (and recognize other forum folk) while strolling around Playa having fun!!

P.S. I've got a favor to ask....... If you PM me with a request for necklaces, please let me know WHEN you're leaving for Playa. While I plan to fill everyone's orders "quick like a cat" (OK... OK.... "bunny"!!), I'd like to fill the orders of the short-timers first so they'll definitely have them in time for their departure. Thanks!!

P.P.S. Don't forget to include your NAME AND ADDRESS in your PM when you order!! People tend to either forget to tell me how many Necklaces/Bracelets/Anklets they'd like or their name/address. Knowing both makes it much easier for me to fill your order.
