I track the FF miles and leave time balances, choose the dates, book the flights, choose and pay for the accomodations, order the latest map, buy the spf and new flip-flops, pack the suitcases, arrange the cat sitter, cancel the paper, etc etc. He drives to the airport. I do enjoy the planning...vacation foreplay...that's perfect! The folks at work are so sick of me by the time I actually leave..."Did I mention it's 31 working days until my vacation?" And yes, I do have an excel spreadsheet with a countdown macro for working days! Don't you?

Not that I would want to go to a New York and/or Boston game - but if it were a Cubs game. :p |

Boy, have I been there..I agree that you should take it as a compliment...same deal here, I plan, they enjoy...but nobody ever complains...I think they're afraid of me!! (not) Seriously, what you're finding is not unusual, relax and have a good time on your vacation...

He's acting dumb---
so he doesn't have to do anything and you get to do it all.
Think about it- its easier for him to act as if he is not interested if he shows interest you might ask him do some work or get involved in thinking and put a strain on his mind. My hubby is just such a creature. The morning we are leaving is the time he starts to question if we have everything we need . He is perfectly happy to let me plan and he glides right through it. |

Kaki, your husband will be so happy once he arrives and realizes what you've been obsessing over! My husband did all of our planning and preparation last year about a year ahead of time and I finally got into about 4 months prior. Our kids told us the same thing and still do - that we are obsessed!
Isn't this forum the best! Have a wonderful time - I know you will! |

Same at our house. I plan everything starting the day we get back from vacation....start planning another. Like this year, we were half way into our vacation and he still had to keep asking me what was the name of the condo we were staying at (for taxi drivers)! I'm like, good god gerdie! Must be a guy thing. But....I bet they could tell you exactly the last time they had sex, when, where and how!

I gotta weigh in on this one. I love the term "vacation foreplay", how appropriate.
For me, the planning is a huge part of the vacation. I was really happy as well to find this website (I was the only one of five first time vacationers who did and does still partake here). We will be back in October (assuming I can swing it, and I am very good at doing that), and while I am not in "foreplay" mode, I just got the biggest kick out of Michaels (T-star) slide show (I only did Mamitas and "stroll down 5th" so far) that I just happened across. Speaking of people you don't "know", I have gained a whole lot of admiration for his skills and artistic talent from what I have seen on PlayaInfo. Hopefully one day I will be around for one of the fabled . . . . .would reunion be a good word? I typically am pretty bashful at those kind of gigs, but a couple of pops usually handles that. Enjoy your trip. You have made a wonderful choice that you will not regret. |

My situation is a little different in that I HAVE to do all the planning as my boyfriend is currently in a different country and rarely can get to a computer or a phone. But I think that's best because we are both very "take charge" kind of people and it could be scary if he was here and we actually had to struggle for vacation planning power!
lol It is a little stressful not being able to run pretty much ANYTHING by the person you are going on vacation with - especially when it's the first vacation that we've ever been on together - but I figure that we have the same interests so what I will want to do, he will want to do! Right? We'll find out! I admit that I am also completely obsessed with this vacation - I even made a homemade travel guide to send to the deployed one (which he loved by the way - but he failed the quiz when I asked him "did you read about the guy with the island that floats on plastic bottles?" and he said "who?" I told him to go finish his homework ). I check out the forum many times a day and the people in my cycle class at the gym can tell me how many days it is until I go on vacation. lol I am a super planner about everything though so this is just par for the course for me - and has definitely made a rough deployment go by more quickly! I can't wait to get there - assuming my To Do list doesn't swallow me up before I can get on the plane. ![]() |
