I can't believe my husband!!

I posted this in the TA forum, but wanted to share with you fine folks here. It's just priceless...

Ok, I booked this vacation 5 months ago. I have been talking about it a lot! I have been packing and picking up items for the trip for weeks. New sandals for the kids, sand and pool toys, etc...everytime I go shopping I show him what I bought and say "look what I bought for Mexico!!"

We are leaving in 4 days.

Today, he asks me "where are we going on our vacation? what is the name of the town?"

Not only that, he has no idea what hotel we are going to, anything about it, etc...he just asked "are there drinks and babysitters?" grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I could kill him! lol

Why isn't he excited to go? I am so obsessed with this vacation, and SOOOOO looking forward to it.

I feel so deflated (just kidding, but I could throttle him right now)

That totally cracks me up. When I was planning our vacation I was glued to this forum and every bit of research known to man on the subject. Each and every day I would ask the family, "Do you know how many days until we leave"? They all made fun of me! I would call them into my office to show them the newest thing I found, etc. and they would all tell me I was obsessed! OBSESSED! I was beyond OBSESSED...I couldn't hardly contain myself while they were all so non-chalant until about 3 days before we left.

Last year my wife gave me the okay to make all arrangements. There were a few little things here and there I'd ask her opinion on - but transportation, hotel, food recommendations...those were all in my hands.

I guess I did okay - because I got to do it again this year.

But, I keep her up to date on what is going on and she is just as excited to go as I am.

That is pretty funny. What has he been thinking about? Basketball?
My husband is like that about anything but vacation. He knows down to the hour when we're leaving for vacation, how to get the hotel even if it's a city we've never been to, what the weather forecast is, etc.
But if it's anything else, he walks around totally clueless! "When is your brother's wedding...and which brother is it?". "Gee, I forgot my dentist appointment again!". "What did you tell this morning to stop at the store and get?".
Mention Playa, beer, and airplanes...he remembers that stuff just fine.
Oh, boy. I hope he doesn't read this!

Better he reacts in an ignorant way than in a negative way! Of the married travelin' couples I've observed, there is always one who takes the mantle of OFFICIAL TRIP PLANNER. As long as the other doesn't hold you to the fire if things don't go perfectly, this is all perfectly normal.

Yeah, he has a hard time relaxing or "getting into the vacation" until he is sitting at the swim up pool bar with a cocktail in hand.

On the bright side, he never argues with me about where we are going. He also has no idea how much money I am spending on the trip

I am just so glad this forum exists so that I can be excited with all of you, cuz he certainly isn't "into PDC" just yet.

Like MWC said, this is normal. He is not going to get excited until the day you leave. If you have been doing all of the planning, then he has nothing to worry about, not even remembering where you are going. He'll be even more stoked when you arrive to PdC and start partying. As happy as he is going to be, it will be worth what you think is him being indifferent. I have been doing all of the planning for our trip because my partner has been too busy with work and besides that, he would not know where to begin since he has never been to PdC. The other day he asked me if I had bought our tickets yet. Yeah...about awhile ago. All my partner is worried about is if he gets to see enough pyramids. I know that PdC is going to blow his mind.

The nice thing is I had very little 'planning' to do. Our idea was to go relax and just do as needed. Eat when you're hungry. Drink when you're thirsty (I'm always thirsty). Sleep when you're tired.

I'm sure you'll both have a blast.

I got lots of compliments on our trip as to my "great" planning. Everyone had a tremendous time.

Why isn't he excited?? Cuz YOU are the one doing all the planning and such and reading about all the fun things and beautiful beaches and great bars, etc. etc. etc.!!! If he were doing that, he would be excited!!

Take it as a compliment that he trusts you to take care of all that! I do all the trip planning for David and me, and only get him involved if there's a decision to be made regarding our itinerary or hotel, etc. And he ALWAYS agrees to whatever I suggest!! I've told him "Listen... you don't HAVE to agree with everything! You can make some suggestions TOO, ya know!!?!" Then I usually hear, "But honey!! You do such a GOOD JOB at it!!!!!" (sure.... stroke my ego and smile, dear!!)

But there IS the understanding that if something doesn't work out exactly as planned (such as an excursion or whatever), I am NOT taking the heat/blame for it! And David's not the type to lay blame anyway...

He'll get psyched when he's on the way to the airport. That's when David and I really start to believe we're going to Playa!!!

Have a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat time!!!!!

Had to laugh at this one!!! Sounds like my house, too! I always do the planning ...but I love it! Even planned for friends this year. However....he really wanted an adult vacation to celebrate our anniversary ( a significant one). I didn't want jewelry or anything else...just him to plan a short trip to Napa/Sonoma area, something he's wanted to do without kids for years. Since I ALWAYS make all the arrangements for everything else I thought this would be a stress free gift to me! WRONG! I'm still waiting for the trip and its been over a year! Don't think it will ever happen. Hmmm....26 years of wedded bliss!! Guess I'll keep planning my beach vacations instead!

Oh Nerak, you are too funny!I feel like I know all of you so well from all of my lurking, it's nice to have a dialouge beyond "what kind of documentation do I need" type posts that I have been posting. Still really good info, and I needed it.

I am afraid getting psyched on the way to the airport ain't gonna work, lol. We have a 15 month old and a 4 year old to get through the 3.5 hour flight...THEN I think we can get excited once we land and get through customs given all of my documentation paranoia (see other thread - only if you are totally bored).

I am so excited though, we are booked in a Royal Club suite and I am ready to be pampered to the hilt. Can't wait to stroll along 5th ave too.

So excited, I can't work today! yikes!

Better go call some clients back
