Wow!, what bad luck.....hopefully you can find it..or you atleast had written down the numbers so it can be replaced quick....brings to mind though...even if you have your passport it's a good idea to have backup documents in case this situation happens while your abroad. (stored in seperate places, of'course) I have heard somehwere that the consulates no longer provide replacement passports if you lose yours while out of the country....know anything about this?

Oh, no. Shammy that is awful! Sounds like something I would do. If you go to www.vitalcheck.com you can at least replace his birth certificate. I paid extra to have my oldest son's sent fed-ex whn he went to London. Cost something like $30, but I had it in 3 days.

Nope, didn't write down the numbers yet, the dang thing was only in the house less than 24 hours!
Again, hubby has been gone for a day so maybe a new set of eyes will help out here. But it's difficult to miss a big white envelope with something sturdy and square in it...not like you'd ever crumple it up and mistake it for garbage. Oldest kid was doing a report on the same table where were left them and had construction paper and stuff all over so me thinks he could have been the one to gather everything up and throw it away, not realizing that perhaps the passport envelope was there. Or...he hid it so his little brother can't come with us..another theory although a far fetched one. I'll be calling the vital stats office first thing Monday morning in the town where he was born and they should be able to get us a new one. Their only about 30 minutes from here and hubby works nearby so he can pick it up. Not even sure if this is the way you would go about getting a birth cert. locally. If not, I'll use your link Beachnutt, thanks. And if it never turns up, which I don't think it will, I think the saying goes...."But we never received it! We got one passport but the other one must have gotten lost in the mail!" Either way...I'm mighty P.O.'ed! |

How awful shammy.... sounds just like something I would do! When we went to get my husbands birth certificate, we just went down to the court house and it took us all of 20 minutes and (I think) $8 to get it. You will be ok....but how frustrating ...I can feel the frustration thru the airwaves or internet waves or whatever you want to call it!

Wrong assumption??B.J.?
I'm quite sure you mis-understood the post. I believe it was meant that due to rather loose immigration policies in both Mexico & Canada,Nationals from any country intending harm to the U.S. may enter the U.S. from your country. I doubt that anyone in the U.S.[unless they're completely paranoid] is worried about terrorist acts by Canadian or Mexican citizens. I could be wrong, but thats my "take" on it. I am of Canadian descent on both side of my family,Nova Scotia and Quebec,& proud of it,but I am glad & proud to be an American too,and want to keep the horror of 9-11-01 from happening again.

However I can see in the future we're not only going to have to have a passport, but there are some high officials in certain countries that have to have little implants, implanted into their skin containing everything about them, and even gps monitors. This eventually will be required of all citizens that wish to travel abroad or not. This implant is about the size of grain of salt. I can tell ya this, that no one will ever plant one of those things into my body, no way no how. However I do wish that I could get these voices out of my head. Passport photos
This may help ease the pain of getting a passport,Wal Mart photo studios
now offer instant passport photos. We had them made for $21.00 for two people, cut to 2"x2" ,and put in a folder in less than 5 min.The application can also be printed off the web just Google "passport application" although it also prints 5 pages of instructions. |

Sorry Bump, I was going on info published in a column in the Boston Herald awhile ago. Should always look at another source. It is easy though, for a iraqi for instance to fly to Canada as a 14 day visitor, then head for one of the tiny roads in No. Vermont or any other state, get on a wood road or trail & walk in by-passing the border crossing. I just felt that B.J. took an innocent statement & tried to turn it into "The Ugly American".
There are always people where you vacation that don't represent their countries well. I.E. Are rude, loud, act inappropriately etc.I refuse to see their whole country as a reflection of their behavior. |
