Sunscape Puerto Aventuras
We just spent 3/24-3/31/05 at this resort. We have been to the PDC area before and even though we just returned we can't wait to go back.
The Sunscape is beautiful and has alot of potential, it just doesn't have all the kinks worked out yet. Our room was 646 and out of all the rooms we have had in the PDC area it was the best view we have ever had at a resort. The room was clean and not moldy smelling. On Good Friday the power went out in the whole Puerto Aventura area. We were in the bar when the power went out and I remember looking out the window to the Catalina resort and they we also without lights. They brought out candles for the stairwell because elevators were down so I did stairs up to my room. Not a big deal, love the exercise. With no electric this also meant that the water system did not work so there was no water at all. The next day it was still out. I didn't really care I was going to the beach anyways and wasn't going to let this ruin my vacation. Make a long story short Puerto Adventuras received power mid-day and Sunscape only can back with limited power. We had water and lights but no a/c. I was happy, if I had a choice I want a bathroom instead of cool air. I think their backup system failed or the a/c system broke. I felt sorry for the GM Rod Gahr they were killed with complaining people. The true test of being in the service industry and how to dealing with unhappy people. We never complained because there were enough people complaining we didn't need to. I do have to say Rod Gahr still made himself visible at all times, and he was very approachable. I would not tell family or friends to stay at this resort for a long time. I believe this resort will be awesome they just need time to adjust. I truly hate to give a bad review. I do believe in being fair. Vacation for me doesn't come that often and it is so expensive I just hope to just get my monies worth. If you have any questions please feel to ask. |

Did you get out and visit Gringo Dave's? We came from Xpu-Ha Palace to celebrate a bday and had tons of fun! Gringo Dave was hilarious and made a special dinner for us and gave us some wonderful margaritas! Even offered us a ride home and for someone to bring us back the next morning for brunch! Thought the town was a nice little break from the AI.

No, I'm sorry we didn't. My husband and the group I was traveling with don't venture out past the AI. I would like to, this site has taught me that are many things outside of the AI in PDC to appreciate. I would like to get him hooked on this site like I'am, then maybe he will learn and try something different. I should just surprise him with a trip and book Playa Maya and then he has no choice.

hi all, this is my 1st post/reply. my wife and i are booked at the sunscape for the 15th -20th ( in 9 days ! ). we have been follwing this board and others and have read reviews of the sunscape , some of which have me scared, others make me think it'll be 'ok. from the difference in some of them, it's hard to believe that the writers were at the same resort.
kskobra, yours seems pretty fair. it's to bad you had to go through the power outtage, as one who went through the outtage in the mid-west u.s., i know what it's like. i was wondering tho, aside from the outtage, how was the place ? what was the beach, food and drink like ? is there still construction or re-modeling going on ? and if so, what areas or floors should i avoid staying in if i have a choice. this will be our 1st trip to pdc or mexico, and my wife and i are going there with an open mind to have fun ! it has been a LONG winter. we have read so many wonderful things on this board that we want to go back, and we have'nt even been ther yet ! we plan on taking in some of the local sites as time allows, and soaking up some sun. oh yeah, we'll try to make to gringo dave's also. |

Welcome!
The resort is in a beautiful location. The beach is wonderful, they did a great job of keeping it clean, a little rocky but you can still swim and snorkel depending on the winds. We had an ocean view room on the six floor, the view was incredible. Our group had a total of seven rooms. The rooms on the sixth and seventh were no problem. Rooms on the second and forth rooms had problems like missing covers on the toilet and one room had ants. Nothing really serious in my option. We really never spent much time in the room. The food was excellent never had a bad meal at the buffet or restaurants. The drinks were good; because they had no air conditioning we spent all our time at the outside bar in the evening. The inside bar has no windows that open and was like a sauna. The spa is under construction and not near ready. But the construction never had any effect on us. You couldn't see or hear the noise. I didn't see any remodeling in the resort at all. They were very good about switching rooms if you were not happy, but some of the people in our group had to wait for people to check out to switch rooms. I'm sure you will have a great time and enjoy the area it is wonderful. We went into PDC a few times and we really love the area. We didn't let anything spoil our time there, we can't wait to go back. Have a great time. |
