Didn't think we'd need two threads on this (I'd already announced the victory here before this one started), but glad to see it!
Yeah, so with the strike I guess that makes YOUR DU PIONEERS! the best team on ice in the U.S., at least! Steve (who is still wondering where Manitou is on this topic...) |

Ha -- my bad! Guess I was just too excited to look around more carefully.
Yes, the old good defense beats a good offense syndrome. You can take that to the bank in hockey, especially with goaltending, in football, as is often cited, in baseball with pitching (a kind of defacto defense, at least)... The question remains, where is Manitou? Or did I also miss him commenting on this thread?!? Steve |

Hey, guys, being that I am a way North, I don't/haven't followed your College hockey. After dinner on Sunday, it is something I'm going to have to do. My cousins' oldest son has a scholarship offer on the table from Denver. It wasn't until the mom made mention of the "Frozen Four" that I put 2 and 2 together.
He's going to play for the Nanaimo Clippers Jr A team for the 05/06 season and then make a final decision. The prospect of going to a 2-time Frozen Four winner has him pretty pumped. Talented kid. 2nd overall scorer in the AMHL Midget AAA this year with 57 points in 34 league games. Plus a whole bunch of other awards over the last couple of years. His little bro is playing Bantam and has been selected to an Alberta Cup team. Pretty exciting times in that household! Sorry, a little OT. When he makes it down there I'll be following a lot more. Well I for one can attest firsthand to the educational quality of Denver University, as an alumnus there and as someone who went on to do graduate work at 2 other schools (DU's sister school Northwestern in Chicago and the U of Arizona in Tucson) and who has had a career of 12 years or so in education.
I was always very happy that I went there: good environment, good school at a small size with resulting good personal attention to students, and a nice liberal arts foundation balancing out the business majors. And keep in mind that that was all during the 80s when the school was really struggling financially. Some of my old profs have grumbled from time to time, to the effect that the school's financial recovery -- it's booming now, with lots of new facilites (including the hockey arena!) -- may have come at the cost of some educational principles. But then there could hardly be a more difficult crowd to please than higher education faculty, I think. My bet is that he would get a solid education there while also enjoying the hockey, as long as he applies himself, of course (which is always the case with any student). FWIW! Steve |
