Moms needing a vacation

Hi all. My husband and friends are going to Europe for their big 40th bday and are leaving all the girls at home. Therefore we have decided we want to go to Playa and have a girls weekend (or longer)! I have stayed at Secrets Capri with my husband and that was great. I am wondering if anyone has suggestions for a place for a bunch of women to go and let loose (get away from the kids). Thanks for your input.

I'd suggest you book a non-AI in downtown Playa, as I think "letting loose" is more a non-AI than an AI type of thing. That way you girls will have the beach (and beach bars) for the day, lotsa shopping along 5th, great restaurants to choose for at night, and lotsa fun bars to raise a few at night. We stayed at the Riviera Caribe and enjoyed it very much. Check out the "trip planning" tab at the top of this page for many hotels to choose from.

The following resorts within walking distance of playa del carmen, per mapchick or a 4 min taxi ride.... I am not sure if all are AI . There are many others of course, depends on how close you want to stay to Playa Del Carmen.

Reef club to PDC 0.9 miles walk =12-14 min

Viva Azteca 1.1 mile 17-19 min

Allegro 1.2 mile 18-19 min

Riu playacar 1.35 mile 21-23 min

Viva Maya 1.4 mile 23-25 min

riu palace 1.55 mile 25-27 min

riu yucatan 1.7 mile 27-29 min

Iberostar quetzal/tucan 1.75 mile 28-31 min

gala 1.8 mile 29-32 min

Yes, those are all AI. Some of them have suffered severe beach erosion You should have a nice beach from Riu Palace down to Gala if that is important. Riu Playacar might be OK - not as bad as say Allegro where there is no beach.

Check the Playa Maya...it is right on the beach...has a pool...great coconut shrimp...and the sunrises from your balcony are well worth it...plus it is right off 5th avenue where all the action and shopping is to be found.

Hi all, I need a little more help. Of the places that the others have suggested which one has the best beach? Also, night life isn't that important as we can go into town. Thanks in advance for any info.

Playa Maya has a beautiful beach right outside plus you can walk to more beach in either direction.

I guess in order to give the proper info, we may need to know one thing........

Did you decide to go AI, or non AI?

AI is what we really want. I looked at the Playa Maya (non-AI) and it looks really nice (just don't know how much more expensive it would be). However, if we are away from our husbands and kids an AI with all food and drinks seems to be the way our group wants to go

If you want to go AI and want to be close to Playa then I would suggest something in Playacar that has not suffered beach erosion. Those would

include
Riu Palace (more couples oriented)
Riu Tequila (Across the street from the beach but less $$$)
Riu Yucatan (may be closed for renovations so check dates)
IB* T/Q
Gala (nice but family oreinted with lots of kids)

If you don't necessarily care if you're further from PDC it's no secret that my favorite is Palladium. Long beautiful, varied beach, lots of different bars with entertainment, two adults only pools, One huge lake like pool, vendors come in three nights a week, close to Tulum , Puerto Aventuas, etc. About 20 mins to Playa del Carmen.
Good luck in your decision.

capecodann...thank you so much. I will check on the Palladium. I don't care if it takes 20 minutes to Play del Carmen. Just want a nice beach and a get away. Do you know their website? What do you think Shammy?

We stayed at the Gran Porto Real in PDC. We had some in our party that wanted AI and others who wanted to be right in town. This place is nice, it's got a good beach and you are only two blocks from 5th Ave.
