I seem to recall that Captain Tutix and the Blue Parrot (on the beach) both were playing North American style dance music when I was there ( I was a little intoxicated at the time). I also remember hearing that Club Mambo was the place for salsa. I really wanted to go there but my group was a little lame.

If you happen to be in playa at the right time of year you may be able to catch one of the salsa competitions they hold at Mambo Cafe. excellent dancers, two years ago a friend from mexico came 4th and a Canadian girl with her mexican boyfriend came 3rd. Alot of the dancers that dance in the competition also dance at local hotels so you may recognize some of them from the hotel you are staying at. They usually have a competition in June sometime.

we also recommend la santanera. across from el oasis...
upstairs..a blend of jazz fusion, downtempo, reggae, dub and deep house..and downstairs..the subterranean warehouse..they cover everything from electro, house, latin flavoured beats..and the occasional top 40'ish..a good spot to end up at! then of course..if you're still up at 5am..head over to moon bar...beware though...everyone at that hour (excluding myself) seem to be partaking in interplanetary travel..ahem! |
