Sam's Club or Grocery Store
I always hate making that trip to the grocery store on the first day in PDC. Can anyone tell me if Sam's Club has everything that the grocery store has. i.e., beer, hard liquor and deli stuff. I also heard you can buy real milk. Is that true? And finally, is it closer than the Chedreau (sp?).

It is not practical to shop only at Sam’s when you arrive, unless all you have on your list is beer wine and milk.
I stop at Sam’s get what I can from there, then go onto Chedraui to get most of everything else. For meat I stop at the HC Monterey on the south side of Calle 1 Sur. About ¼ mile east of Chedraui. There is also a good fruit and vegetable market on the north side of Calle 1 Sur. With these four stores to choose from, I can get everything I would need to eat and drink in one excursion. If you are hungry you can eat at HC Monterey and they’ll even serve you a cold one. |

Got Milk?
I am a three gallon a week milk drinker, so I was also really happy to read on this forum that Sams had milk. We went to Chedraui before we even went to our digs in Playacar. They didn't have milk (nor did I expect them to), and for a very limited Spanish speaker, it was quite a journey (I actually had a ball scoping out all the "mucho deliscioso" stuff on the packages).
The next day, we headed for Sams, our dairy withdrawal in full swing. No milk. Some kind of soy alternative that really didn't appeal (although I think it was promised to be "mucho deliscioso"). Like many things in Mexico, the supply chain is somewhat tenuous. Normally, I have learned to shrug my shoulders and mutter "manana", but this is milk we are talking about. We had to make do with beer and margaritas. I did sneak out one afternoon for a chocolate malt at Johnny Rockets, but that was it for the lactose of the week. I wish you better luck than we had, and I guarantee you I will be at Sams again, looking for leche in October. |

I agree with Michael on the shopping.
Chuckkay- Chedraui has milk, it's just ultra pasteurized and comes in a box. Sam's runs out of it alot, and FYI: the blue labeled domestic fresh milk they sometimes have does not compare to the imported Borden branded milk they also carry (when they have it.) I tried it last time as an experiment and will stick with the Borden. Yep, supply lines are certainly tenuous.
