Playa Bargains

With Don Diego's having 50% off drinks, I thought I'd see what other bargains y'all have found in Playa.

Some of my favorites:
  • Just about anything on the menu at El Fogon.
  • The talavera sinks at the little shop on the west side of 5th between 10th and 12th.
  • Lots of local fruits and veggies - avocado, mango, pineapple, cilantro, etc.
  • The 2 for 1 drinks at Playa Maya.
  • Happy hour Pina Coladas at La Taberna.
  • The Mojitos at Babe's.

I know I'm forgetting lots... help me out?

Susie Q, is there a certain time at Playa Maya for the 2 for 1 drinks? We stayed there last year but I don't recall a 2 for 1. I do recall the margs being strong though!

Maybe Steve will chime in with the answer to this one. It seems like every time I'm there they have 2/1 margaritas and (I could be wrong) caipirinhas.

The tacos at Dr. Taco. And the great deal was that the Dr. helped a friend that had an injury while we were there last time, right in the restaurant. Great guy.

The free breakfast when you stay at the Don Emilione. With double occupancy it is like buying breakfast and getting a free room.

Lots of bargains for a local

Good thing about La Taberna is that 2x1 is not really needed. As a former bartender I only like to drink good alcohol (as you all probably know, many places serve bad, cheap liquor as "house liquor"). so in La Taberna they have all the best prices in town for high quality alcohol. The draft beer (specially the dark one) is delicious!!! And their chicken nachos, oh my!

Also, does anybody know that place in 2nd St between 10 and 15, they sell juices, smoothies, tortas and guisados. Really clean, nice place. The owners are really cool and their children also work there from time to time, the name is "Jugos California". I've been going to that place since I got to Playa, and still love it!!

Too lazy to go anywahere? Los Originales is a great place to call and order some great food with great prices, it's nicely located near my house hehe... 307 and Juarez Ave.

I don't cook much (actually hate it) so I depend on this places to live, I can't recommend them enough!

Vanilla!!!

Buy it at the grocery store and not the tourist shops. We paid about 15 pesos for a huge bottle, it is about 100 times as expensive here.

Also Yucatan honey and Tabasco sauce is cheaper there. And buying those lime flavoured peanuts (Golden Nuts brand) to take home is a bargain for us, as we cannot buy them here.

Due to strict enforcement of the labeling laws?

What does that mean?

Even artificial vanilla here is super expensive.

The stuff I bought may or may not be real (it didn't say artificial anywhere, like another brand did) but it is still a good deal. So I am happy.

Is there a difference in the quality to what you would buy here in the states?
