There is no annual fee, but it might be worth the $30 fee if I can get a ticket at 20,000 points.

Thanks,

It may vary by airline. On American, round-trip between the mainland USA and Mexico is 30,000 miles. So, you effectively fly round-trip for spending $25,000.

SPG just transfers 25,000 miles to the airline of your choice once you rack up 20,000 points and request the transfer.

denisea,

If this is true, I will have this card in very short order. You are telling me I can fly free, ANY time, to Bangcock for 20,000 miles?

Capitol One's web site is extremely thin on details for this card. Another site I checked out that reviews various cards described it differently. The way it was described, the deal is more or less a 1% cash-back. In other words, if you charge $20,000, you would have $200 to apply towards an airline ticket purchase. If that's it, why not use Discover so you can use your 1% as you please?

I must be overlooking something. Where does it say you can fly anywhere, anytime, for 20,000 points?

I have a Capital One GO MILES card. Perhaps that's what Denise is speaking of? No annual fee, pretty low interest rate, free balance transfers with 0% interest for 18 months, 1 mile for every dollar spent but for the first 6 months you have the card, you get 2 miles for every dollar spent. I've 'bout worn my card out these first 6 months too!

That's the card I was looking at Shammy. Roughly speaking, I would have to spend $50,000 on that card to buy a $500 round-trip ticket, versus $25,000 on the Starwood Amex. Again, unless I'm missing something.

There are reviews of the Go Miles card here, and reviews of the SPG Amex are here.

I'm from Bloomington, Illinois. It's a couple hours drive to Rockford. I've seen flights lately as low as $79.00 one way before taxes.

Bump...
Peeps, watch your mail for a Capital One No Hassle Miles Ultra offer. 1.25 miles for every $1 in purchases, no annual fee.
I was wondering what other peeps had to say about Capital One before applying. If it works for the forum goddess, I figure it's good.

We've had Capital One credit cards (Keith and I have individual accounts) for years now. Our original cards were not miles/rewards cards. Capital One automatically upgraded/changed our cards whenever they started offering the miles/reward card without us requesting. We've never had any hassles with Capital One. They do not pester you with telemarketers... though we do receive many offers via snail mail. Their interest rates tend to be lower (not necessarily the lowest) than many other card issuers if that is a concern at all. As for the miles/rewards, we've yet to use them so can't comment on them. However, maestranba started a thread not to long ago titled "Capital One really IS no hassle!!" describing her experience with Capital One that you might want to read.

Thanks. I did a search using the words capital and rewards (one is too small and common a word to use) and maestramba's thread wasn't included in the results.
Henry and I have been accumulating miles with a card tied to American Airlines. We've been limiting ourselves to one airline for far too long.

This appears to be an instance where less is more... better results with fewer search words... because the word "rewards" was not used in maestranba's title or post, the thread did not come up in your search. Using just the word "Capital" with regular search, the thread appears on the second page of results. Using advanced search with just the word "Capital", selecting "search titles only" the thread is the first result. Also I'm sure you know, however, some other users may not... the underlined thread title in my previous post "Capital One really IS no hassle!!" is a direct link to that thread... 99.99% of underlined text on the forum indicates an active link to another web page.

For a point of reference, Our trip in March from O-Hare using Funjet/Aeromexico was $294 round trip (4 people) including taxes.
Our trip in April was $340 round trip per person (2 people). Aeromexico again and they did a nice job. I usually book within a month or two before the trip and get a better deal.
The only problems that we had was that on the first trip, they tried to move us from O'Hare to Midway on a later flight but when I told them I didn't want it, they found someone else that did.
On the April trip, the flight was supposed to depart at 6:30 am but changed to 7:30 without notice.

As a customer, I guess you would know this. At one point in fairly recent history, Capital One was cited as wreaking havoc with their customers' credit ratings -- instead of giving customers credit for their full credit line, the information they would give out to financial companies would show their customers' credit lines as being whatever balance the customers had at the time. So it would look as though a Capital One customer was at 100% of their credit limit. Greg read about this, and won't work with Capital One as a result. Did this issue get cleared up?
