help me name this thread

So anyway...

A couple of weeks ago we came to work to discover that the folks from Cancun who put up the map signs on the various corners of 5th sometime last summer, I believe it was, had also put one at the very end of 8th street near us, just before your feet head out onto the sand. Again we wondered if they would ever respond to our repeated concerns that the map they're posting for our area is remarkably wrong, among other errors leaving us out entirely (even though we've been here almost 3 years now, much longer than Kabuki, which does appear on the map) and putting the Pelicano Inn approximately in the location of the Hotel Illusion.

Then the day before yesterday ago we discovered that they'd come by at some point and actually put the same wrong map in place in the new sign at the end of 8th, as well. I wrote and informed them in no uncertain terms of our response, which to put it graphically, is this:

To be more specific I asked them how well they would receive it if we came and posted a large and obvious sign on the only corner everyone had to pass to reach them, some 15 meters from their entrance, and with the official Benito Juarez logotype on top of it showing the government's approval, which sign contained a map that showed they were not there at all, and moreover in the case that they had informed us repeatedly of this error for months but we had neither responded nor corrected it.

Have yet to hear back on that one, but in the meantime I wanted to get the word out again to people to take the information on those signs with a grain of salt of considerable size, as the folks who put them up just don't have their heads in the game.

Now all I need is your help in giving this thread a title! I've put up the ones that immediately came to mind but I'm sure the gallery here will have even better suggestions, so feel free to add write-ins!

Steve

Wow that really stinks, Steve and it sounds like you are up against a brick wall.
These folks are obviously not getting the point. Hve you actually walked them over to
saying "WE ARE HERE. WHY ARE WE NOT HERE (pointing to map)." Or tape one of mapchicks (accurate) maps over theirs.

Good one, TeeZet!

And yes, we've told them. They initially said the maps were based on plans in the city's offices, implying that maybe they were a bit outdated or something. This makes no sense, however, if you consider the presence of Kabuki and the Pelicano Inn being shown where it never was.

Another one: "Ghost Town?"

(I know this as a song by a band called The Specials.)

How about a can of spray paint to correct it or a runaway taxi to take it out?!

Perhaps they have insight on an impending tsunami?

In the meantime, why not create a corrected map using Adobe Illustrator, laminate it, and use liquid nails to affix it over the erroneous one.

I've often thought of bringing my own signs to mark the cross streets on 30th Avenue, north of Constituyentes. That would be an interesting PlayaInfo peep project.

That interesting qualifies your post for my little informal understatement competition.

hmmm...we saw those signs and thought maybe Playa Maya had closed so we took you off our map .Darn, that means we have Pelicano in the wrong place too!

I'm kidding Steve!!!! This sign thing stinks.
Good job with the garbage bags and duct tape though, very stylish
So, what company is making these signs?

How about "Lost on 8 Norte".
Just kidding Steve, hope they straighten it out soon. I would hate not being able to find the Playa Maya next year!

Now that would explain why Mark got lost that night when he went to drop the leftovers back at the room. :p

At first I would of thought it was a paid advertisement kind of thing, but I'm sure the Pelicano would not be happy......Duct tape seems to work well.

Steve, p'raps they would be willing to add a disclaimer to the bottom of their cartographic catastrophes. Maps Courtesy of Clueless and Cluck. (Apparently, Lewis and Clark had another engagement.)
