Snack Attack. . .
It does make a difference if you're staying in an AI or a small resort, if you want someting to snack on late at night you want it now!
So, my question to the seasoned, tanned, lubricated Gringo's: SNACKS - bring them from home? Buy 'em there? What do you do? What do you have? I am thinking abpout bringing: M&M's ( plain & peanut), sunflower seeds, pringles & some dried fruit (trail mix). LndShrk |

There are a ton of little stores and "Farmacies" on 5th avenue with snacks galore.
BUT, if you stay at an AI be ready to pay up the nose. A bag of chips at the Grand Xcaret Resort store was $8 US. Outrageous! We brought some snacks for the kids and then bought more when in Playa. |

I love Mexican snacks, however, with a passion that is astounding. Takis, Chile/lime Fritos, and Churrimais (sp?). Well, time for trip to the corner store, gotta go. |

5th is definitely "in town" - everybody knows where it is, and there's zillions of taxis, so you'll never lack a ride.
Pringles abound in Playa, but wherever you wind up, grab a taxi to Chedraui. It's like a Super Wal-Mart. They have everything mentioned above, including trail mix. Upon arrival, we got snacks, sodas, beer, bread and PB&J. We were set for the week! Oh, and we got some really good tequila there (2 bottles in a gift box set) for $7.00US. Amazing. Take pesos, or have your ATM card ready (there's an ATM inside the entrance to the store). They took our US cash the first time we were there, and they refused it the 2nd time. Chedraui is about 10 blocks or so west of 5th, I wouldn't walk it - taxis are cheap. Oh, and we had some trouble with our taxi driver, cuz we didn't say it right. Here's how HE pronounced it: Shed-Raw-Wee We kept saying: Shad-Rewee Live & Learn! P.S. "borrow" a knife from the restaurant at your hotel for spreading pb&j. yes the further away from 5th ave you go the better the prices are
for instance a bottle of good tequila is 50 us on 5th and the same on the hi-way its @ 30us or 27 at sams club or 23 at costco in cancun they sell the same stuff all over town so walk away from the beach and youll save $ plus its fun to go exploring and find little shops restaurants bars etc |
