I'm sitting here smiling about the treat you're in for. The beaches in Playa del Carmen are wonderful - white and soft, not rocky, no undertow. You walk a few minutes north of town or south of Playacar and you'll have the beach all to yourself. My guess is that you'll prefer Playa to Cancun for your future trips.
