It's weird that you can not bring matches in your checked luggage but can carry them on the clothes you are wearing, I would (if ever) consider a bigger risk the matches on the hands of "terrorists" than a package in the belly of the plane.

That is hilarious...wow, that is the reason I read these forums-thanks for the laugh!

I knew that question would uncover some strange happenings.
One yr a woman was bringing home 3 styrofoam chests with fish they had caught.
As luggage came down the chest got slammed with heavy bags and fish was all over.
She was not a happy camper.

If I was one of the other passengers, I wouldn't have been happy. Like most people, my suitcase is soft-sided, can you imagine the fish smell on everything?

Ok, back on topic. One day I saw at Mexico airport's security check a bow and arrows confiscated from a passenger. Those were the souvenirs of his Chiapas trip, so they were not exactly functional but even then, Who would think of carrying those on board after 9/11?

One of the Jamaican guys that works at my orchard took a 500c.c. Honda engine apart, left the block and packed the rest in a small gym bag.I went to pick it up and I swear it weighed at least 100 pounds! He was on a charter flight and said it was "NO PROBLEM"
