Royal Hideaway - Padded Mattress & Heated jacuzzi?
I have been reading in some forums that the beds in Mexico are very hard and that many places don't heat their pools and/or jacuzzi's.
Just wondering if this applies with the RH? Do they have padded mattress liners available? If the pools are heated, does this mean all the pools are heated. TIA |

None of the pools at the RH are heated. The only heated pools in the Mayan Riviera are at the two Secrets properties and even then, they only heat half of the pool (odd but true).
Not sure if the RH has mattress pads available either. Although the beds in many resorts are hard on the back, I've never had anyone complain about them at the RH. Doesn't mean they aren't hard beds, just means none of my people who have stayed there have mentioned any complaints. |

The mattress was pretty hard. In fact, by the end of the week, I noticed I was a little sore from lseeping on such a hard bed. Oddly, I still got the best sleep that I've ever had on vacation. It was so quiet and peaceful.

They do have pads, just request one. We didn't, but some people we met did and said they worked great.
We thought the beds were fine - and I agree, I slept like a rock. Of course, all the food and alcohol contributed to that. |

That's good they at least have pads.
Odd....why heat only half the pool? I can't fathom why the pools are partially heated. If I go in the winter, I would like the pools heated completely. Looks like RH is sending out inaccurate information. I received an email from them and this is what it said: Quote:

We have been to RH 2x and yes the beds are quite firm. We still slept very good. As far as the pools and jacuzzis we never got in them, stayed at the beach the whole time. We have a pool in our backyard and never understand why some travel all the way to the beautiful Carribean beaches and hang out by a pool
The e-mail from RH that you posted says the jacuzzis are heated, so I assume that to be true. They do not say the pools are heated with anything other than the "outside air", so I am not sure how they are sending out info. that is not accurate We enjoyed both stays at RH very much(we stayed there our 1st 2 trips to PDC). Have a fun trip!

We stayed at the RH a year ago and did get into one of the hot tubs once. It was heated, but not scorchingly hot like some hot tubs are, but warmer than the pool it was next to (one of the relaxation pools).
We also spent most of our time by the beach - I'm with you on that one tnt, that's why I go to the Carribbean. Plus, the people watching is way more interesting on the beach. I also don't remember thinking the mattress was horribly hard, and I have a Temperpedic at home. Course, it may have been all the alcohol circulating in my system that made me not notice it. We go again in 11 days, I'll try to pay better attention and report back. |

True, I don't understand why people want to spend time at the pool when the wonderful ocean is right there. But, having gone in December one year, I shall not go back into the ocean as it was COLD.
A couple of times in Cancun we went in the summer and the water was just awesome. We did venture to the pool for a change for a short bit only. Every once in a while, I like to sit inside the hot jacuzzi sipping a Pina Colada or other drink in the late afternoon or evening while the jets are massaging my aching muscles. That's part of the "relaxing" atmosphere that I enjoy while on vacation, but the bed, along with decent air conditioning is a must. I just don't know why in 4,5+ star resorts many places don't have hot jacuzzis. I do recall one hotel that was a 3 star that had a really hot jacuzzi in the middle of summer. I guess the bigh boyz want to cut costs as many people don't complain that the water is too cold. |
