I'd have to agree, but I don't have anything to compare to either.
Was there for a week in April 2004, and went again in February 2005.

The construction was an issue (but didn't bother me as we were up and gone most days). Rooms were great, service was great, staff was very cool.

Location to 5th was a big plus.

FurDog, would love to see your photos. Need a password though. I am going there in two weeks with a friend and we are so excited to be close to 5th street.

Don't have any info about GPR...but wanted to concure with BK - you'll be in Playa, practically paradise, so everyone is likely to have a good time.

Oh and noticed you haven't "planted your butt" yet - follow this link (click here) MN could use a few more...need to keep ahead of those Texans

BTW - have a blast in playa!!

We stayed at the GPR in March this year. Everyone had a great time, no complaints.
We have also been to the Iberostar Tucan and the Iberosta Paraiso Del Mar, the grounds at the Iberostars are absolutely gorgeous and their beaches are more secluded but the GPR is all about being in Playa and only two blocks from everything.
I don't think you'll have any complaints. I heard the Royal Porto Real was suppose to open this month. That place is suppose to be pretty impressive. You might want to check that out.

The service was good and the room was very nice.
There is a second pool on the second floor which is a little more private and it has
a swim up bar.
In the nicest dinner resturant on premises some in our group were having the lobster
dinner for a small upcharge. I can tell you the martinis were wonderful.
All in all like I said we were happy with the whole experience.
Do you have to make reservations for dinner?

Both als carte restaurants required reservations but they were not difficult to get. Just stop by concierge desk in the AM or the day before.
