This may be a dumb question but is anything being done to stop the hotels covering all that's left of the beaches here in parasols and sunbeds?
It's supposed to be public land! Soon we'll have to lie down and get up again between the waves going in and out. Perhaps I'll just place my own fence and beach hut where I like too. |

I suppose a truly clever and obnoxious hotel owner would claim that the "public part" of his/her beach was the part that got washed out to sea in the last storm!
Try to keep your perspective. We always have the attitude that if our patronage helps keep a smaller-scale place in business on the water -- it means there's one less mega-resort that can go there. If it's a mega-resort restricting your access -- they're just b*****ds. |

Unfortunately it's the big tossers by the north pier, and your description while cunningly disguised to avoid censorship, is apt. I wonder if James is only familiar with the well known swear words that we now share? Perhaps I'll slip in a few colloquial British ones as a test. Hey, I might have used one already! |

it's a Dan Akroyd line from a Count-Counterpoint segment between himself and Jane Curtain where she presents her side of a position and he refutes her position by, basically, calling her a whore. 1978 or thereabout. Classic SNL.

Hmm. So that means they're suggesting the hotel's weak but arrogant, palm greased reply to any complaints?
... and hi Quinn. it's so nice to hear more colourful British words like 'plonker'. Why are US TV programmes limited to just one word describing Oedipus's bad habits? There must be more. |

I can't believe you said that either! At least you didn't mention the suicidal 'Enders'. Hey, do you deal with 6 month to 1 year rentals , but not the rip off beach front ones? Cheers |

Hi Quinn, Thanks - I know exactly where you mean. We're looking for somewhere with no noisy pets barking all night or building going on (difficult here I know) and it looks like the land near you has surveyors posts marked out ready to start. As we've gone way off thread, I'll make one last comment on the beach subject - the 5 a side footy pitch by the south pier is down to two a side now after those last few days of strong waves! If only King Cnute really knew how to stop them. |
