Last Saturday, April 2, the Playa del Carmen Bomberos once again dominated the team competition of the 4th annual State Academy, besting the fire teams from Cozumel and Cancun. A crucial error early in the Cancun team's performance led to a temporary disqualifiation. Anger and shouting ensued, and the disgruntled Cancun team refused their chance at a "do over." In the end, all teams stayed for the awards ceremony, where a Cozumel firefighter took the individual top prize while the Playa del Carmen team held onto their top department distinction.
