Freedom Paradise - day trip report
Last Sunday, on my way to Tulum, I decided to stop at Freedom Paradise. Since I am super-sized woman, I was curious to see what this AI is like. I got a bracelet at the reception area. For day use of the facility, it costs $30.00. I paid in pesos, so it cost me $330.00. (this has been happening a lot on this trip, the price is in US dollars, then you have to pay 11 pesos to the dollar...that is another thread) This fee covered drinks, food, snorkeling, etc. It costs $125.00 a night to stay there...I do not know the minimum. I was offered accomodations for $90.00 a night.
The property is very beautiful and is located on Tank-Ha bay. For lunch, carne asada, hamburgers, and paella was served. I tried a hamburger and some paella which were very good. As in all AI's plenty of liquor and beer was flowing. On tap, Corona was available. No top shelf hard liquor was available, only some Mr. Boston products. I ended up drinking Coca-cola...I am a snob. I wish I would have brought an inuslated mug so that I could fill it with beer...the little glasses were not cutting it. I wanted to do some snorkeling or kayaking but the stand where you can check out equipment closed for the afternoon. I have no clue what that was about, so I won't bitch. The area looked nice for snorkeling, there are some areas where you would need water shoes or sandals so that you can enter. I ended up sun bathing for about half an hour and then decided to move on to Tulum to a beach club. What I found kind of amusing that there were only six chunky monkeys on the property; two children, two men, another woman and myself. The rest of the guests were very thin or of average size. Lotsa ta-tas on the beach. There were lots of Mexican families staying there. I didn't see too much of that special sized furniture that is advertised on FP's website. When I left, I asked the young woman at the front desk to call a taxi for me. She was genuinely concerned about whether or not I had a good time. Also, she wanted to know why I was not staying longer and had I eaten lunch and had some drinks. I got 180 pesos back. I thought this was pretty cool. Would I stay here? Probably not. My chief concern is the property's distance from nearby town's. You would definitely need to fork over some bucks for a taxi or a rental car. But then, you could do the collectivo option. Also, I have become very spoiled by staying at a small hotel in PdC. As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I have never had any problems in Playa with anyone making rude remarks. In fact, this visit, I have seen more large women out swimming and sun bathing. Perhaps because part of my stay this time was during high season. I just wanted to see for myself what this place was like.
