Where to Dive??

I will be going to Playa Sept 22-26! I have never been scuba diving before and am not licensed but want to go!! I saw somewhere that we could take the inductory course and take a dive for $75 a piece. Or does someone have any suggestions?

Click on PDC Directory and you will find info on the Abyss Dive Shop. This is suposed to be a good dive operation. Anoter great dive operation out of Akumal is the "Original Akumal Dive Shop".

I highly recommend a search for discover scuba. I've posted on this topic many times, in some cases in quite detail. I'll stick to my assertion that the most important aspect is the instructor in whom you will be confiding.

You might as well do it in Playa. I don't see an advantage in going to Akumal.[/b]

I just returned from Playa yesterday and my husband and I went diving.

We too are beginners and we took the Discovery Scuba course from Mitch at Abyss Diving last Saturday. Abyss is right next door to the ******. You watch a video, then put your gear on and walk over to Pancho's and use the pool to learn basic techniques. Then, you hop on the boat to do a 35 foot one tank dive. It was incredible!!!

Since my husband and I had so much fun, we decided to dive in Cozumel and Cancun before we left! We asked Mitch to provide us with documentation to show that we did the pool work so all we had to do was hook up with a dive shop for more diving.

In Cozumel, we did a one tank dive with Orlando from Cabillito del Caribe and in Cancun we went for a two tank dive with Manta Diving but I can't remember the name of the person we dove with.

Anyway, I would recommend Mitch from Abyss for the first time. He was great and really made me feel super comfortable!

(Don't forget to come equipped with a water proof camera to take pictures when you are under! We found a camera that went to 75 feet which is more than adequate since beginners won't be coming close to that depth and can't wait to get the film back from the developers!)

Hope this helps!
Tammy

Mitch is the man. You won't find anyone better.
