Playa Deal Card Recoup

Okay, have ordered the Playa Deal Card.
Let's see $42 investment..... that means we'll have to eat and drink $210 at 20% off to "break even".
What will we do the second day?

Don't forget to shop, too. A coupla pieces of jewelry, and you've made your investment back.

You won't get 20% onmost bars and restaurants promoted by
this site.....and at a few it's can only be used once.....also
if they have beer on sale allready[Beer Bucket]...they don't accept it.
Not a bad deal....we purchased it when we went March/05....but
quickly realized there are alot of good bars and restaurants that are
not on the "Deal Card" and a few on there are not worth returning to...
just saying keep your eyes wide open!

Wonder how long this post will remain up....before it's yanked

I doubt that it would get yanked, as I think James appreciates honest feedback.

From a different point of view, when I was in PDC in Jan, I found that the Deal Card was very useful. Even though it was only for two people, at least two places gave us a discount on the whole bill which was for 6 people. Our friends really appreciated that. I plan to purchase it again because I think even if you only use it a couple of times for meals and drinks, you will get your money back. There is enough variety of places on the card that you should be able to find a place that suits your taste. Since we are staying right in PDC for a week, we don't really need to eat somewhere every night from the card in order to get our money's worth.

My feeling is that buying the card, regardless of how much it is used, is a way to give something back to James and Anna for this forum. I, for one don't spend much time looking at the webcam- maybe a little on the weekends and when I knew Nerak and Bumper would be on it , and so I have not, as yet thought to donate any $$ toward it (not to say that I won't). But I'd buy the Playa Deal Card before every trip- we used it much more the first time than this past time, but, so what?

Hello B.J.. I would really like some more detailed input from your experience so I can look into it. Also, we are adding a handful of new partners each month and would like to know who else you would recommend for the card.

To address the Beer Bucket issue, your card gives you happy hour price at all times so if your there during happy hour you don't need it. That may have been the confusion.

Thanks for your input and hope to hear back from you.

I did mention it was "not a bad deal"...I can appreciate
any loyalty to James and Anna.....we frequently eat out when at
home and always when on vacation.....that is why we bought 3 cards!!
My observation was...I felt I had to return to restaurants, that I was not
especially blown away bye.....just to try get my investment back.
I didn't....so I guess inadvertently we did support this site.I am new on here
so I didn't know it was expected to donate to the site....or should I have assumed this? Thanks for letting me state my opinion..........

I really was joking about recouping our investment.
I have been lurking around this site for a while and have received tons of useful (and some not so useful) information. I have also some enjoyed some very amusing trip reports, great photos and humorous postings from this site. If all it costs me is $42, then I am ahead. Let's see 100 hours of reading pleasure and 100 looks at the webcam...comes out to about 21 cents each visit. Much cheaper than a shrink. Keeps me sane!

I very much appreciate you addressing me on my
feeble complaining....again, I really did not have an "issue" with
the cards...I would not have found out about the following if not for the
Playa.Info site and the Playa Deal Card: Beer Bucket...loved it there
went everyday[12 times] Fat Cat...excellent guys[Jezz and Diego}
Babes...excellent food.....Yanche..went there for my B-day whilr there.
I know most peeps on here like Tequila Barrel...but everytime we went
there[always during the day] we recieved a very slow [and not so friendly]
waiter....we also enjoyed Hot Baking Co...we went there even after we couldn't use the card...the card introduces you to many places you would not usually find on your own that quickly. I have a list of good restaurants at home..{I'm playing at work right now]....but with your great atitude I feel confident you will add more to your
'list'....we found the best service on the beach [for cerveza] to be at Playa Maya
hotel.....found beer at El Pirata do be usually not cold enough for my taste.
Thanks for your concersns....Stacy.

We loved and very much appreciated our experiences with the Playa Deal Card...since we booked our hotel(s) thru Playa.Info we didn't have to purchase one - but even if we had - it would have been a good deal (especially with the boutique and the ambar jewelry Ruth bought)...

PLUS, even if only to let businesses and hotels KNOW WHO is promoting them and WHY we are there, I'd use the card....if I only broke even on the card I'd still use it to promote james and anna's venture here.

I'm a fan of entrepreneurship.

We can't rave enough about the card from our experience this past Feb/Mar. The list of establishments became our 'dining guide' since this was our first prolonged visit deep in the wilds of PdC. We had made one day trip into town from our AI in each of the two previous years to scout about a little, but really didn't have any 'must see' places in mind.

We easily recouped our cost in 2 weeks, enjoyed a wide variety of cuisines and atmospheres, all quite acceptable, and were shocked on more than one occassion when participating businesses whacked 20-30% off the total tab for a table of 15 or 20 very thirsty peeps when a few of us displayed the cards. They seemed to decide we would all have a card, so no need to actually see all of them.
