Bike riding near PDC
Anybody have experience with bicycling in the area. How safe are the roads? Would a road bike be okay or do road conditions limit you to a mountain bike? Any recommendations on good routes- road or trail rides?
Thanks, Greg |

There isn't very good biking in the area for serious biking. (20- 30 miles at 15-22mph) The roads are rough and too short. The highway is the only place to really get going. Playacar would be ok for a road bike but kind of a short ride.

Okay, I found a map of Playacar and it looks like there might be a nice loop around the perimeter to ride. What is the road surface like- good asphalt or rough? How would the traffic be very early in the morning? Any guesses how long the loop is- 3 or 4 miles maybe? Am I just out of my mind to even try riding down there?
Thanks, Greg |

Another Opinion
I am a roadie, do about 5,000 miles per year. After reading the threads James is referencing I choose to not even consider riding in Playa. After my visit I can now say it was a good decision. You do not want to ride in or around Playa. Now Playacar may have some possibilites if four mile circles will do it for you.
There is too much else to do, give up on the bike and consider it some time off, enjoy what makes the area famous. |
