As far as Mojitos. I first had them at Hatties Chicken Shack in Saratoga Springs, NY. They served them with a stirrer made of sugar cane. You can enjoy your drink and then chew on the rum and mint soaked sugar cain. Awesome!! I have since made them many times, and enjoyed them at Bebe's Noodle Bar in Playa.

I am only a short drive from Saratoga. Can you give me specifics on the location of Hatties?

I wish I could. Only went there once for a wedding. It is a well established place, and any local could send yo there. It is is right in town. Has great fried chicken and greens. The outdoor patio is a fantastic atmosphere.

My absolute favorite specialty drink was doen for me at the Barcelo. One 'tender, back in '01, came up with his own drink called a Grossa Maya.

Coffee Liquore (spelling)
Creme de Coca
Rum (dark preferred)
Strawberries
A touch of Gran Marnier
Ice
A splash of milk (optional)
Blend until the consistancy of a milk shake.

Mine was doen with no milk since I'm lactose intolerant. They tasted awesome!!! Like a strawberry/coffee/coconut milkshake, which was a huge thing for me since it was the closest I've been to a milkshake since '94.

The bartender wasn't there in '03, and no one else knew how to make it, so it's never been the same since.

I make my own at home, which comes out pretty close, but there's no beach in front of me........

Hey Karen. If memory serves correctly Hattie's is on Phila Street just before 43 Phila. Great joint. I highly recommend it.

Cucaracha

1/2 shot of tequila (the good kind)
1/2 shot of kahlua

Pretty yummy and send you over the edge fast! It burns a little but is much smoother than I thought it would be! When we brought the recipie home to our friends that's all they wanted to shoot on New Year's! When we ran out of tequila they tried it with rum. ~Not a good mix, at all!!!

I don't know about the Tecate, but I found the Dos XX on tap tolerable, light and dark. In the bottle the XX is horrible, I hated it. I love Corona, and now Barcelo has Corona light/dark on tap, I'll have to go to AA after we get back from vacation.

The cucarachas are cool! I was affraid at first because they were on fire and we had to drink them with a straw but it tasted like coffee to me. Pretty good stuff.
