Royal Hideaway Overbooked-moved to Grand Xcaret-HELP

We are leaving tomorrow for what was supposed to be a 1 week stay at the Royal Hideaway, but SkyAuction (I'll never use them again) called today to say the RH was overbooked for the first 4 nights and we were being moved to the Grand Xcaret. We had stayed at RH last year, so I knew exactly what I was getting. I know nothing about the Grand Xcaret - other than it's HUGE and allows kids (I'm not a kid hater, I have 3 of my own, but I wanted an adults only trip to celebrate our anniversary).
What restaurants are good at the Grand Xcaret?
Do you have to get up early to get chairs at the beach/pool?
Is the service as good as Royal Hideaway?
I am SOOOOO disappointed.
They have said we get a free week at Royal Hideaway within the next year, but I was looking forward to THIS trip. Am I overreacting?
Any advice/info is appreciated.

OUCH !! you are not overreacting! and I dont know what to tell you to do about it. I think one week is just not good enough when you were planning an adults only vacation....insist they get you an adults only resort of equal value plus the free week!

Look at it this way. Yeah, it sucks that they are overbooked and you're being bumped. But, you get to check out a different resort and still spend a few days at RH. PLUS, you get a free week at RH in the next year. The way prices look for next year, the free week may come in handy. Sorry to hear about being bumped, but make the most of it...and your free trip.

if you are being moved to the OGFX, INSIST on only being placed in the Royal Club in an ocean view junior suite. it is not the royal hideaway but the royal club area is awesome.

i know you had your heart set on the RH, but look at the bright side- you get to go back again for a week for free! we wre bumped this year and compensated a free week at different resorts and we had a great time and our looking forward to our "free week".

i wouldn't accept less than the royal club because there is no comparison between the 2 resorts. we have stayed at the royal club twice and never the RH BTW !

another point is that perhaps the beach will improve at the RH between now and your next free trip....

The good news is that the food at OGFX was the best we've had in AI. Also, the free day at Xcaret park is a great benny.

Tha bad news, and frankly a much bigger deal to us than food, is that there is no beach at the Xcaret. Only a man made lagoon with some trucked in sand. Look here to see the 'lagoon beach'. http://www.locogringo.com/maps/tour/138a-t.html

Also, definately ask for the Royal Club.

UPDATE
I wrote a couple emails saying how disappointed I was to skyauction and the RH. We were met by Oscar from RH saying they were overbooked (kind of like this was the first I would hear about it), we would be going to Cieba del Mar in Puerto Moreles. It is smaller and Oscar said it was the same quality as RH (close, but not the same). The food is somewhat better, but the service doesnt come close. After enough tropical drinks I am okay with it. It really doesn't seem right that they can take your money and then not give you what you paid for. I told my husband it felt like every penney we spent at RH was worth it, and this place is close in price if you get the AI option, but doesnt feel close to the same value.
On the upside, I did have lobster for dinner last night and I think I will again tonight. And hopefully we will get to RH on Sunday.
Now I will go check out the drinks thread so I can find something interesting to drown my disappointments in.
Trip report when we get back.
