Planning a trip next March -- there will be about 10 of us. 1/2 adults, 1/2 teens. Would this Condo be a good choice for us? We really don't want to go all inclusive because of the cost but want to be walking distance to Sr Frogs, etc. for the teens. If this isn't a good choice what would you suggest. Once I get it narrowed down a bit I will contact some of the Travel Agents.

Xaman Ha's location is ideal - walking distance to just about everything. We've stayed there 5 times in 3 different condos and really love it. The condos. grounds & pool are kept spotless by a friendly staff. As of May 7, 2005 there was no beach left directly in front of the condos - but that could very well change again by March ! It didn't matter to us - the oca\ean views are terrific, and you only need to go to the southern edge of the property & down a few steps to reach a sandy beach area. The pool is great with shallow areas for children and for the first time, the small swimup bar area was open & serving pop, beer & mixed drinks. We like having a full size refrigerator for stocking up on cold drinks and snacks, and the kitchens have enough basic equipment to cook if you want. I agree that there are so many great places to eat in Playa that it would be hard to be tied down to an AI. If some of the kids are old enough that you're comfortable with them going into town on their own, it's a very short walk over to 5th Ave. We've tought about trying someplace new but Xaman Ha has been so peerfect for us that we even changed the dates of our last trip so we could stay there again !
You can see pictures & more info/rates as well as request reservations here at PlayaInfo and feel free to ask if you have any more questions !
Happy trip planning -
Julie

Julie, thanks for your comments. Did you rent from private parties or from an agent? Did you have a large group? We are leaning towards this even if we have to rent 2 units. Would prefer one though. How do you think this compares to Fisherman's? Sounds like it may be more inexpensive? Don't want to get too far from 5th Ave though because the teens are older and can definitely go by themselves. They would really like to be in an area that there are other young adults.

I agree with Julie re: Xaman Ha and actually wound up buying a condo there I liked it so much. It is about 18% less expensive than Fisherman's with none of the hassles of people trying to convince you to attend one of Fisherman's time share presentations -- also much closer to town. There are 50+ units at Xaman Ha ranging from 1 bedroom to 4 bedroom and all are individually owned and maintained. This means there are big differences from one condo to the next so make sure you look at photos of the specific condo you want to rent because they range from nice but basic units to very luxurious units -- some have been totally remodelled recently and others have not. You can see 85% of the units there at the www.playadreams.com web site.

Xaman Ha Unit 7001

Thanks. I went out and looked at all of the units. Has anyone ever stayed in Unit 7001. It is a 4 bedroom/4 bath unit. Any other units you specifically recommend. They all look nice. We are thinking we may rent 2 separate units if the 4 bedroom doesn't work.

4 Bedroom Units?

According to the trip planning section on this site, the largest size unit is 3 bedrooms/3 baths. Are the 4 bedroom units really two 2 bedroom units together? Anybody know? Thanks

From what I understand, this particular site only works with one property manager at Xaman Ha, and there are about 6 property managers who manage the sum total of all the 57 units there. There is one four-bedroom unit (and only 1) at Xaman Ha and that is unit 7001. It's managed, however, by one of the property managers that this playadelcarmeninfo site does not work with.

Ah...that explains it. Thanks for the info gjuhl!

If you book from the playa.info site, will you know in advance which unit you are getting? For example in the two bedroom description it says the two bedrooms will have:

2 Kings
OR
1 King and 1 Queen
OR
1 King and 2 Individual size
