Best Adults only resorts
I am planning a suprise 30th b-day trip for the hubby next year. So far I have 15 people in on it. We are thinking of Secrets Excellence. I have been hearing so many great things about Royal Hideaway though. Who likes what resort and why, what resort would be good for a group? Any other resort suggestions would be great. Prefferably adults only and large.

Royal Hideaway is not really adults only, but you have to be 13. Been to SERC and Secrets Capri and for a large group I think I would choose SERC; for an intimate group, let's say 2 couples, Secrets Capri. Hope this helps. Just my opinion.

le_meow,
SERC is located immediately south of the Paradisus (about 20 minutes north of Playa del Carmen, and about 5 minutes north of Puerto Morelos). Here's a link to Laura & Perry's Hotel Locator section of their website. Secrets isn't on their site yet, but the Paradisus is: http://www.cancunmap.com/assist/rivi...l#Anchor-62712 I agree w/ Robino that SERC is good for a larger group. We were at Secrets Capri last May w/ 2 other couples & that worked out fine since it's a fairly small resort. In May 2003, we were at Aventura Spa Palace w/ 14 of us (7 couples) total & that was nice due to the much larger size of ASP. SERC isn't nearly as large as ASP, but it's big enough so that your group could kind of spread out a little if you wanted to. Jackie |

We just got back from ASP. There were 9 couples. We had no problems at all with the size of our group. A couple nights we just split up and sat separately (but they put our tables next to each other). We have decided though that next time we're not going as such a large group...that's a lot of personalities!

[Wow, thank you all so much. You are all so much help, not like trip advisor. They are a little rude there. That looks like a great spot. Can anyone tell me how the beach is. I hear it is not really fab like the other resorts. Can you still snorkel and see a lot of fish here? It really doesn't make a diffrece because we HAVE chose Secrets Excellence for our trip, I was just wondering.]

I was just in thier cigar store and then the cigar bar last night. We all actually sat outside in some nice comfy rattan chairs while those smoking the cigars did their thing as some of the peeps we were with didn't want to hang IN the cigar bar itself.
Since I was only there for a few hours, I can't say much else but dang...no doubt you'll love the place! Really fabulous!

OOOOOh getting to excited now. It's more than a year away and I wish it was THIS August. We should be able to get some good rates since we have such a large group (15) and will be booking early. Thanks for the quick post Shammy, You must be having a ball in heaven!

When I said I was at Secrets for only a few hours, I meant it! I was only there for work, to do a property inspection, then had dinner and some drinks...I did not get to STAY there (unfortunately)! And not to burst your bubble but having 15 people might not do the trick as far as getting any kind of better rate. Groups are considered either 20 people or 10 rooms and even then, you wouldn't really see a price difference, it's just sometimes it's easier as far as booking goes. You'll all probably have to be handled as individuals and go with the prevailing rate at the time. Since you can't even get air more than 331 days out, you have a while before you can even get prices yet, let alone book. I will say that it certainly is not an inexpensive resort but it does seem to be worth the price. |

Oh ok, thought you were still there. So when is the best time to go to my travel agent? I was going to go in December. Should I wait,go sooner? I am still new to the whole travel thing. This will only be my second trip. I knew it was a pricey resort, I was thinking about the Royal Hideaway but that was too pricey for us. We want keep it under $1200 per person for those 5 nights and be able to make payments on it (layaway). Am I dreaming?
Well even though you were on work there, I hope you had a wonderful time. Thanks for all the info! |
