Arriving late at ASP, switch to earlier?
We will be going to ASP in July on a Tuesday for a week for our honeymoon. The cheapest flight we found doesn't get us into Cancun until 5pm, then through customs plus car ride, probably get to resort at 6:30 or 7pm. After debating I went online to find that we can get a flight arriving at CUN at 10am, into ASP by around 12pm, for $150 more for both of us. It's not to late to switch, but I don't know if its worth it. My biggest concern is that by arriving late, we won't get the room we want, as most guests will already be checked in. Does anyone have any advice on this stuff?

I would think most guests there checked in on the previous weekend, so you may not get the room you want anyway. Gettting to your room earlier will give you time to rest a little which translates to more party time that night. But then the $150 could be spent on fun in PDC as opposed to getting there 5 hrs. earlier. Hmmmm--Looks like six of one & half dozen of the other too me.

Getting in early certainly would be an advantage to enjoy more of the day...but when we stayed at the Riu Palace we checked in after 9:30 pm and got an incredibly great room - one of the best without having a corner jacuzzi suite - so I can't really speak to your concern about all the good rooms being given away as the day goes but I know it certainly would make sense to think so..
My call would be that if I could get in earlier I would try hard to make that happen...for us, it's worth it if its 150 total...if 150 each...I'm not so sure about that... |

its also the hassle of going through and switching flights now, plus $150. I probably won't change over, just hope we get a decent room still. I've heard stories of ASP giving out not-so-great rooms anyways. But if worse comes to worse, I can switch the next morning I am sure. Thanks for the advice. Maybe we'll luck out like it was for you at the Riu after 9pm.

It's good to be home, but only because I really missed the kids. I'm seriously thinking about renting a villa next time and taking the kids. Barn let me know if you have any questions. You're going to have a great time. |

Thanks for the info. We don't really have any set-in-stone plans while we are there. I'm interested in xelha or xcaret, but I want the trip to last as long as possible, and I'm afraid that if we do to many side trips, the trip will fly by. I would rather spend the whole time by the lagoon or pool just relaxing. Glad that you had a good time

Shammers is right...the few hours for 300.00 isn't really worth the $$...Save it as a starter fund for the next trip or buy yourself "sumpin' purty"...
and we really look forward to the hard beds in Playa...there's something to be said for a firmer-than-firm mattress on a slab of concrete...and headboards bolted onto the walls... I can't say exactly what that something to be said is...but I'm sure you're following along... |

Do they have mattress pads that we can request? anyone know? I'll save the $ for October 2006 when we return for a friends wedding. Havn't decided on a resort for that trip yet. We'll see how ASP is first. Our friends are doing there wedding at SERC but don't want the guests booked at the same place.
What is it with hard beds at AI's? Maybe they don't make as much noise?![]() |
