MB...I work in an authentic british tea room in Tennessee. When I come down next summer I'll try to remember to bring some "groceries". Of course, June is faaaaaarrrrr away and my brain will probably forget by tomorrow, but I will try. Is there anything specific I can bring? We sell all kinds of biscuits and candy bars and other groceries...do you drink pg tips? That's pretty much what we serve to our customers. Let me know.

sunnygrl,

That's a very kind offer!!

But of course I have to adjust. It's just occasionally you say to yourself 'I just fancy...' then realise you can't!

Now if you work in an authentic British tea room then you should be saying 'sweets' not candies. Nice to see you say biscuits though

Good story there, David! I especially like the part about the trash department as retaliation.

Steve
Mr. Chedraui (a friend of a friend of a friend) lives in Veracruz and his stores are only in the Southern States of Mexico (12 states in all).

Comercial Mexicana (with their memorable Pelican Logo) are only in approx 17 states plus DF but they do have stores as far north as Baja.

We shop in the Comercial Mexicana during almost every visit to Merida (due to the good location of the store).

Despite the extremely bad (but improving) store in Playa, Chedraui is in my opinion the better retailer. We are also glad to see both Walmart and Comercial Mexicana in town. I expect the problems with massively long lines at Chedraui that were common pre-Sam’s are now gone forever.

We will really be on the shopping map when a Liverpool opens in town (for those of you in the US that’s like having a May Company department store in town).

As for the trash retaliation, Yes Playa is like that, be very careful who you piss off.

Alright you displaced UKer's and UK wannabe's, my wife and I are coming down to PDC in November without children. Why would this be of interest to you? Only because when we go out of town without the kids, my mother inlaw comes from Belfast to stay with the kids.

If you are in need of UK delecacies like Hobnobs and Digestives (which I always request when she comes to town), please let me know and I can mule some down for you.

I would be happy to place an order with my mother inlaw for any folks down in PDC.

Ok, what side of the construction site is this sign? I went looking for it yesterday but didn't find it. I need proof, damn it, before I get my hopes up.

Delmy says she thinks it's on the 8th street side but that it may be on the 30th Ave side. However she corroborates that she saw it there, and she has a mind like a steel trap for such details.

We've been fooled by a "coming soon" sign on at least one previous occasion.

We were in Playa the last two weeks and we saw the sign at 8th street and 30th avenue. The physical location of the sign (Wal-Mart SuperCenter Coming Soon) is on 8th street.

It is on the corner of 8th and 30th as you are heading towards Constituyentes. It is one block from the school, so I see it every day.

My bad, MB. I knew when I was writing "candy bars" just didn't sound right! Course, I'm not a brit either. But between JT and myself we should be able to get a care package to you guys. Would a tearoom go over in Playa? Hmmmm. Maybe an idea for business? Course if Ryberg can't find plastic chairs and tables, what would be the odds of getting bangers, british baked beans, assorted biscuits and sweets to Playa????? That might be asking too much.
