legal ceremony versus religious/blessing

We are in an quandry, the wedding coordinator is advising the blessing ceremony instead of the legal one for convienance and that it was nicer. We were thinking it was a good idea but are now having second thoughts about it........

Does anyone who has gone through either process have any pros/cons to advise us

We had a similiar issue. We wanted a religious ceremony but also wanted it to be legal. Both can be arranged but for an additional $500-$600. We opted for the blessing ceremony. We got to write our own vows and had the minister read some scripture that was important to us as part of the ceremony. We got married when we got home by the Justice of the Peace. Cost us $45 instead of hundreds. I joke with my husband that we have two annivarsary dates. But I only make him buy me one gift.

My wife and I did what your wedding coordinator advises you and we're still glad to have done so.

We got legally married in Mexico. It was a relatively smooth process despite some paperwork and the blood tests. Do whatever you're most comfortable doing. Good luck and congratulations.

My sister and her husband had a blessing ceremony in Playa 7 years ago. They opted to go to the JP in Dallas about a week before without telling anyone and apparently loved doing it. They said they felt like they were eloping. We still don't know when their "secret" date is. The family knew the Mex wedding was not a legal one but keeping it a secret made it special for the guests that came. They now have have two anniversaries and the "secret" one is really very special to them. CONGRATULATIONS! and have a great time.

Thanks a lot for all your input, we are still up in the air but I guess nothing has to set in stone for a little bit yet.

jotp vs. minister

we were married on may 8 in playa. before we went down we had a small religious ceremony in michigan first due to a family situation. it actually worked out better this way because we knew that we wouln't have to deal with any legality issues once we got to mexico. everything is more complicated in mexico. also, the minister was cheaper than the justice of the peace. it wasn't any less special or meaningful to have been married in the states before the wedding in mexico.
