Pizza
I would like to mention a brand new place to experience very, very delicious Naples-style pizza. It's called PUMMAROLA or something very similar and is in the extreme north end, catty-corner to the Natz Ti Ha condos. The guy making the pizza also owns the condos on the same property of the pizzeria, and when I was in Playa last spring, I looked at his condo where he had a pizza oven built into his rooftop terrace. He proclaimed that made the best pizza ever. Well, I guess he went and opened his own joint just to prove the point to the public. The pizza is woodfired with a thin, bubbly crust and a delicious red sauce (if you don't go for a white one). Toppings are a tad more plentiful than I usually care for, but some people will consider this a bonus. My favorite was a Margherita style with anchovies. Caveat emptor - the service does not have their act together . An antipasto and a pasta ordered never materialized, and the pizzas flew out of the kitchen with lightning speed. Also, the red wine sucked, unless you like cold, fizzy Lambrusco-style stuff - I don't.
Another great pizza was found at La Siesta(closer to center of town - don't have address). Again, woodfired, thin crust, perfect ratio of topping to sauce, to crust. We loved the Marinara style (again with anchovies!), which is without cheese. A friend ordered the pie with seafood, which was mighty tasty, although I don't love seafood combined with cheese as a rule. A splendid homemade tagliatelle bolognese was worth a return meal as well.
