La Tortuga to HC I would think would be around a 15 or 20 minute walk. And yes, it can sometimes get pretty hot, as it is an open air restaurant (most in Playa are), but as long as you don't sit in the very back or next to the grill, you should be okay. I would not recommend getting your food to go on your first trip. Part of the experience is eating it there, IMHO.

Okay, I am goign to ask a question that I am sure ha sbeen asked many time sbeofre.. please bare with me. I will be down in Playa in under a month. My fiance and I will be staying in a condo on the north end of town (near Cueva del Chango). We won't have a car. Is it walkable from that area of town? Seeing these pictures is making me need that food. It sounds so good!

If you are coming from the north end, you will be walking about as far south as you could. So if you enjoy walking and taking in the sights (and maybe a few cold beverages along the way), then I say go for it. You can always pour your full-bellied selves into a cab for the ride home. But if you don't like long walks or are afraid it might be too hot, then cab it. |

Thanks! That is exactly what I needed to know. Since we are on the north end, it seems that we'll be taking taxis quite a bit to get to all the good restaurants without spending a good chunk of our day walking to them. Just jump in a cab and say 'HH de Monterey Carneceria por favor", sounds so much easier on my fiance than walking.... thanks again!

Hey...a walk would be a great way to build up an appetite for dinner.
Just remember, they shut down for new seating by around 7PM! We stay in the North end at the fabulous Luna Blue and walk everywhere. We've walked to HC a few times...we even walk into Playacar and the resort areas/Playacar Plaza areas... Not too bad at all really. Love the walking....it's a cool vibe. Next I suppose you'll be needing directions....?

I freaking love this place. Everyone is so helpful. I am sure that everything is close enough to walk. Having no points of reference it is hard for me to judge distances! I know we'll spend 4 days walking all over the place, so I'm sure we'll bump shoulders with that end of town during our time out and about at some point!

If you need any tips or suggestions on restaurants that are "off the eaten path" let me know. I don't know much about the restaurants along the main tourist area of 5th, but I know a few pretty good ones that are further away from the tourist area. Heather is also a good source of knowledge on local eateries and has dug out a few gems on her own. Of course she has quite the advantage over me, with her living there and all...

We ate this afternoon at the new HC Monterrey at the north end of Playa (Calle 60???)
Identical menu and prices as on 1 Sur. Has been open for about two months. |
