I have...and I used skirt steak this past time. I have a lot of work to do...any advice, anyone else tried it?

I got the onions and potatoes down !
The "crema" is sour cream with lime juice.

Hard to pin down that marinade. I've tried a few times, and I've made some decent fajitas, but nothing as tender and flavorful as HC.

Of course, I need to be careful not to get TOO close - after all I still need an incentive to travel to Playa!

In other words I've not abbreviated what is on the street signs. It is after Calle 38 when you are traveling north and is in the approx area of Calle 40. It is clearly sign posted (mostly).

If you are driving down 30th look for the Chinese Restaurant on the North West Corner.

CTM is where the second HC Carnes location is. (you will find a bunch of other posts claiming other locations, this is the correct one).

Also on CTM is:

The building supply store Carrillo (where we buy our concrete).

And Llantamaya. Otherwise known as Goodyear tires (but no longer recognizable as such as the Goodyear sign is long gone). A good option for wheel alignments and Goodyear tires (and they have at least one English Speaking alignment tech).

Is the food at the new one on CTM identical to the original location? We're staying at Shangri-La and this seems to be much closer. Thanks!

Okay.. I think this one farther north will be the one for me. I am staying at a condo very near La Cueva del Chango. Is it within walking distance for a lesiurley afternoon stroll? Only 6 days!

Yes, I'd say it's within walking distance. It's about 1/2 a mile from that area. Here's a map.

We almost missed it!!

We went looking for HC with our tongues hanging out after all the decriptions of the great meat. We looked...and looked some more...then we looked again and finally figured we'd got the directions mixed up. (This was to their original location) Well, guess what...the sign has disappeared....no sign on the walls either....no walls with writing all over them from happy customers (its all got a fresh coat of paint!) but the directions were dead on. We were standing looking at the place but since there was no sign and it didn't look like the pics we figured it wasn't the right place. Thank goodness we went back for a second try...this time the waiters called out "Hey guys, this is HC de Monteray". We had the Arachera National with the onion and it was super...dinner for 2 with just 1 beer was $21 US and worth twice as much! Stopped yesterday at the food store and bought a bottle of A1 Steak Sauce which we'll be brown bagging when we go back for another "meat fix" in a few days time. Everyone was right...a not to be missed Playa food stop!

No...........don't kill it with A1!
My husband is an A1 fanatic. He won't even taste the food and slathers it in A1. Somehow, I think HC's is perfect as is.

What are their hours? Do they close at 7 PM every night?

I will give you a dollar if you leave the steak sauce at home!!!

Glad you enjoyed it though!!!

My preparation: I take a tortilla, put some meat inside, a little sliced up avacado, a little grilled onion, squeeze a bit of lime juice on it, and top it with a bit of the crema and bit of the salsa, and then... lather, rinse, repeat!

Hey, I like my A-1

Ok, ok....I won't drown it in A-1 steak sauce, just a small puddle of sauce to dip the corner of each bite into? Is that ok? The nite we were there they were picking up the chairs at 7:00pm. We also had a big, black, dirty, dark tinted windowed Suburban pull up at the curb and park. Out came 3 guys and a girl all in bullet proof vests, combat belts and machine guns. They took a table and all had steaks while cradling the machine guns with one hand as they hung from straps over their shoulders.
Maybe these were the people to make sure I didn't use A-1 sauce on my steak?

To each is own, I suppose...

I consider it akin to taking foie gras prepared by Alain Ducasse himself, and dipping it in A-1!
