My favorite meal in PDC? HC de Monterrey butcher shop...

If you havent tried this place, you should! Its on 1st street south, between 20th and 25th. Mostly locals, no english spoken.

Order the "plato arracharra." Its served with a large portion of some of the BEST meat Ive EVER eaten, with a bbq onion in tin foil, half an avacado, half a lime, some smokey red salsa and some garlic mayonaise. Oh, and a big stack of tortillas.

If youre wanting to get it to go... There is a nice tortilla factory RIGHT across the street.

I will update when I return, but so far this is my best meal in Playa and some of the best meat Ive ever had.

(Thank you god, for giving me a mouth!)

I agree this is a great place. Even though no english is spoken, they are very excited to have you. The tortilla's accross the street are fresh and hot when you get them. A couple blocks towards 307 is a vege/fruit market, and next to that is a fish market for stocking up your condo. Very cheep and fresh.

They've always spoken to me in English.

Sometimes broken English, other times perfect American English. I think it just depends upon who's working that day. I've even had them take their Spanish answers to my wife's questions and repeat them over in English so that the translation did not get confused.

Great food, great meat and cold beer. And as mentioned you can also get Fresh Veg across the street (where they don't speak English, or at least not when I've visited).

Isn't it great to be a carnivore? I agree - the meat at HC is the best!

I am from Monterrey and believe me, this meat IS from Monterrey!!
Delicious, nothing better in Playa, great prices and if you look at the walls with all those phrases written by people from all over the world saying "I loved it", you can't go wrong!

Michael: Is that the place we stopped to get the meat for our dinner at Villa Flamboyan in February?

Just have Michael drive you. It's worth it just to watch him park his Monster Truck on that street and have a standoff with a city bus.

Yes this is the very same place. When we are cooking at Villa Flamboyan the meat always comes from this place.

The directions to find it are simple. After leaving Chedraui, exit from the parking lot take a left on 45th Ave. Then turn right on Calle 1 Sur (east towards the ocean).
Drive down Calle 1 Sur and look for a red painted wall on the right side. You will have just past a fruit and vegetable store on your left.

After I brought my barbeque from the US and installed it at Villa Flamboyan. James gave me the approx name and location (both close enough, but not quiet right; as James did explain). Since then this place became popular with forum readers

When I got home I posted the same approx correct information. I think Anna corrected the name and later Mike G did his wonderful food trip report (this is very well written and illustrated and a must read before a visit to Playa) and corrected the location. It is on Calle 1 Sur between 20th and 25th Aves, on the south side of Calle 1 sur.
