Continental/Palace

Is it true the the Continental will soon be the Palace? If yes, any contact info. Also how is the beach there?

Yes, the Continental is in the process of being renovated and will become a Palace resort - looks like it will really be nice when completed. As of the first week of May, there is no beach - the water comes right up to the wall. The closest beach is either north on the other side of the ferry, or south on the other side of Xman Ha condos.

Ann,

It is the "soon" part, that is in doubt. I think they missed thier original Christmas Eve grand opening date by 5 months. And I'm not so sure that the May opening date is going to happen.

However it does look like the refurb is being done right. They stripped the place back to the concrete and a new lobby as been built at the front. This will be one of the more upmarket hotels in town when it is done.

There are a few other threads on this subject with more info. and pictures.

Mike.

Boy that's true....that place was a SHELL the last couple of times I saw it...
I didn't notice or don't recall where they were when we were there in early April.

I'd be curious to see what the outside is looking like....Because it looked like downtown Beirut there for a while...

Still looks like downtown Beirut. I was there a few weeks ago and the lobby etc. is still pretty much a shell. Looks like some of the rooms may be getting closer, but it was hard to tell. I have some photos, but I just haven't had a chance to post.

You would have to look carefully at the last photographs I posted to see any differences. The construction is moving along, but the building looks (a few weeks ago) more or less like the last pictures I posted.

WAY on down there on the list of things you want to place your money on is any construction project in Mexico being finished by any particular deadline, I'd say.

Well, if this says anything....

Those pictures are a VAST improvement from what I saw last time I was there!

At least it appears they're working on it.
