Gogo - do exchange some of your CDN$ before heading there, but do take some US$ it seems to be more appreciated than Pesos (as we have found in the past) - even though us Canadians take a beating on our dollar. Also, we have always found using our CDN credit cards are actually better - the reason being is the bank is going to charge your card Pesos at the daily rate when they post this to your account. We have actually saved money believe it or not.
If you've never been to the Caribbean your not going to want to go anywhere else after being in Playa. It is so beautiful...I'm looking forward to my (hopefully) 5th visit next spring. When requesting a room I guess depends on where you want to be, if you get further at the back by the golf course, this would be away from the main buildings, it is much quieter. But closer to the lobby and resturant and entertainment area will obviously be busier/louder - it's up to you where you might want your room. But have a look at the property map when you get there, maybe that will help. Enjoy your vacation

Gogo,
I look forward to your trip report when you return! We are scheduled to stay at the Riu Tequila the week of 10/27. I stayed at Allegro last time, and we had a great time. The Caribbean is beautiful. Mexico is wonderful. I've been everywhere from the coast of Venezuela to the Grenadines, on up. You will enjoy yourself beyond belief! Everytime I'm there, I'm planning my next trip before I even leave. |

Well, Well, Well... just reporting back about my trip to PDC from October 6
to 13. Riu Tequila was wonderful. The staff were all so kind. The food and beverages were great. I was so happy that next year I will be returning to the Tequila. I did not mind being off the beach as it was only a five minute walk or 2 minute shuttle. The weather was fantastic. Oh well I could go on but maybe if anyone wants more details just ask and I will be glad to get back to you. Have a great trip!!!! I'm still in my dreams. GoGo |

Glad you had a good time, Gogo! Can you tell me about the specialty restaurants? We stayed at the Playacar in May, and we'll be at the Tequila in 12 days. We couldn't get reservations last May to save our lives. What specialty restaurants were there? Was it hard to get reservations?
TIA! |

Do tell!
Yes, please tell details of anything important that you remember.
Also, anything you wish you had brought that you didn't have? Any "secrets" about the resort that you noticed? 4 days and counting . . . |

Tequila
Ok -- i've been to the Riu Tequila a number of times and I always bring my own soap. They provide those itsy bitsy bars and for me that just doesn't do it! If you are a beach person a tote helps to get all your stuff from the room to the beach more easily. I also bring room deodorizer. There can be a musty smell(for me no big deal), but a room freshener is nice. Bring something warm(sweater, jacket) sometimes the evenings can be cool. Tips on rooms: if you are a beach person you might appreciate a room more towards the front of the property--building 4 or 5. Also top floor is better for quiet ams. The maids start cleaning early and they move furniture about and it can be very noisy if they are cleaning the room above you!! If you get a room facing the pool there is less privacy on your porch and it is also noisier because the carts going up and down the sidewalk with supplies are moving about from early am.
Never went to a specialty restaurant so can't help there. Enjoy Playa and venture into town it is great fun!!!! |

Sunny,
I don't know what you mean by specialty restaurants as my trip was all-inclusive. If you mean the 2 restaurants you have to make reservations for, one is seafood and the other is a steakhouse and they were okay but I think the food in the main dining room is better The selection is quite good but it is nice to change it up a bit by trying the other 2 resaurants. You just have to be in the lobby at 7:00 am to reserve for that same evening. Hope that helps. I know you will have a great trip. All I have is memories and pictures to look at til next year. Follow the leada, leada, leada, follow the leada. I love my job!!!!! Don't forget that saying and I bet you will think of me when you get there. Have a mexican flag shooter for me okay!! GoGo |

Thanks Gogo!
This will be our 5th trip to Playa--we just *have* to go every 6 months or so (or we get reeeeeal sick) . So, reading your "follow the leada, leada, leada..." just put a huge smile on my face! Thanks! I've never heard of a Mexican Flag shooter, but rest assured I will try one (or more as the case may be). I will drink them in your honor!!! Last May, while we were at the Riu Playacar, we could not get reservations at their steak/seafood places. That is exactly what I was referring to as 'specialty restaurants'. Hopefully it will be easier this time. Thanks again! |

10/27 trip
Lust4Travel,
I don't think I'm using this site properly but what the heck. I hope you get this before you go. Sorry, I really don't have any important details except for the fact that I do recommend you have a massage or two by the pool. I had 2 body massages and 2 foot massages.....heavenly! Also, if you go to town I hope you have US or know your peso exchange really well because I got ripped off the first store I bought something at. The guy made me feel like he was giving me good deal but it ended up it was the opposite. I do think MM's suggestings were a good idea about soap etc. but I'm an over-packer. I'm a nightmare when it comes to that. So try not to over-pack. Figure on one outgit per night and the rest of the time your in your bathing suit and wraps. Anyway, I jealeous but have a great trip. Have a blue ocean drink for me. GoGo |
