These "Best Of" questions are always a challenge when it comes to booze or food, unless you're talking pre-packaged commodities, like beer. They're generally just too much of a "moving target", because of the significant human component involved in the process. Of course, if a place consistently shorts the shots, or uses all pre-mix ingredients rather than fresh, or mass produces you can usually (but not always) put them on the low end of the scale. We've generally found that a watering hole that tends to emphasis the atmosphere and decor of the place usually does it to the detriment of the product, be it meals or drinks. I'm thinking along the line of Senor Frogs, or Carlos & Charlies, or TGI Fridays, or the ******, and yes...I realize those places have their supporters and enthusiasts, and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Having said that, the best mojito I ever had was at La Bodequito del Medio in the plaza at the South end of 5th. Mind you, I've also had pretty pedestian ones there as well, but that's the human factor again. For the most part, they've been our favourite, though the search goes on. Experimentation and exploration carry their own rewards (risks too)!

I will tell you, I had a REALLY good mojito at La Bodega de Media in the plaza shopping center at the very south end of la quinta near 1st st south... Bad news is it was 55 pesos and very small. This place tries to be very Cuban though, and they had the best mojitos and ropa veaja Ive ever had.

Mojito madness
Yes, I have been there, and you are correct they serve a nice mojito....but as you mentioned..they are a bit pricey for the size of the drink. I did notice they serve pitchers of mojitos....looks like that's the best bang for your mojito buck

Sometimes it is the mint that is used that makes some of the Mojitos taste strange. Maybe it is the kind of mint they are using? Personally, I like spearmint, but peppermint will work too (in an emergency)-although it is really a different taste--much stronger. Sometimes bartenders use applemint or some other type of mint and it just doesn't work. |
