just can't keep up with 8th street news!

It's amazing how fast things change around here lately.

The brief existence of a restaurant run by the owners from Casa del Agua at the Treetops Hotel seems to be over. They were moving things out this morning and the receptionist confirmed that they were closing shop. Evidently Treetops is also working on a renovation plan of some sort involving some extra rooms but I don't know any more specifics.

Delmy tells me that the people working on the Albatros site told her the new entrance to the hotel would be in approximately the center of the property on 8th street, as it runs away from the beach, that they would be leaving at least the main part of the former entrance/reception area as it is, and that they have scheduled September as the time frame for reopening. I happened to see the Mosquito Blue manager (her name slips my mind), who is evidently running the show, talking to people at the site and she along with another man (perhaps the architect or some chief), and they said they had no plans to move the new transformer the Comisión put in a while back, as others on the site had reported to us previously. Seems like somebody somehow also managed to take out (with a truck?) the last of the new streetlights on the south side of the street, in front of the Alhambra.

Then I rounded the corner to see we're in another beach-gaining mode here today! Excellent. Love to see it coming in and leaving sand...

Do you know if Treetops is under new ownership? We saw that it was for sale when we stayed there this past January.

Hi Steve,
This is not about 8th, but almost. I just got an email from some friends of ours that said they recently purchased a very small restaurant, almost right beside Mambo Cafe on 6th. Have you noticed it? I think they are decorating etc., and hoping to get through the slower summer season. They are wonderful people and great cooks (if you stop by their names are Ana y luis y hablan mas espanol que ingles).

I'll have to check that out -- hadn't noticed that.

I also forgot to mention yesterday that the Tank-Ha dive shop outlet at the end of 8th is now gone, too. Delmy asked yesterday when we were headed out and they said no more at that location. Don't know if they're still going to have boats there or not...
